Australian exchange student gunned down
#41
It does me good to know 711 believes that Travvon thing was not racist. Quite refreshing actually, as many think it was. Blowing-kisses for standing up and putting some real light on the crazy world of racial stupidness. Its a growing threat over here.

What I am saying is that I am not a US citizen so I don't have my race goggles on. It is not a part of our culture, it is just not an issue here. So when it was reported here, it was reported that he was taken out by three youths, not black/white. It is not about that with us.

Yes racism exists here in Australia, but it is not as strong as it is over there and clearly the bar is set much lower as to what is acceptable and tolerable.

I tried to highlight which parts are specifically racist but the whole lot is hate based along with the disclaimer in the second last paragraph and the nonsense in the last bit.
"race in one direction it has to do with race in the other direction"
A statement like that comes from someone with limited understanding and insight into culture, ethnicity different communities and how the social structure works.
The same of one community is not the same way in another.
Different people have different experiences, expectations, fears, just like yours would be different to that of an englishman.

That is very basic.

Saussie, under your logic you would consider Dr. King a racist.

But he wasn't one either.

His dream was not for a separate black community, segregated by social structure or divided by culture. That was precisely what he was fighting AGAINST. He wanted to break down those walls, so that all could "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".

He wanted NO differences for black Americans... he didn't want them judged separately or given a pass because of their color, culture, or life experience. Those ideas - which you apparently espouse - were the antithesis of Dr. King's goals.

Honestly saussie, I don't think you understand racism at all.

No under my logic, you are part of the problem not the solution. Of course an all inclusive assimilated society is in the perfect world. What Mr King was talking about was discrimination and bigotry, the kind that you exhibit.

Why is it I find it hard to believe that Martin Luther King is not one of your heros? Are you going to call him names the way you did Oprah?

Again, all you have demonstrated is your lack of understanding as to what exactly social tolerance and acceptance actually entails. It does not mean that you have to all become the same. On the contrary, you celebrate and embrace your differences and learn from each other. That way you break down fears and barriers.

Honestly Jimmy, I don't think you understand anything, not just racism. Stop hiding. I am outing you bro.

Aussie, do you not understand what Jim is saying here?

If the murder of the Australian student would've been reversed, let's say a black college student from Ghana, and three white kids gunned him down, do you think it would NOT be a huge racial issue in this country?

Jim is saying when it's black on white, it's simply chalked up to 'thugs being thugs', but when white people do it, it's racism.

Aussie, I don't think Mr. Bone is a racist. He was raising a valid point & encouraging us to discuss the differences in how this would be viewed if three white kids had shot a black jogger.

The media has some power here and they will spin a story to make it even more provocative than what it is. They tend to put a slant on stories. Many of us here (in America) have learned to assimilate the facts for ourselves because most of the media cannot be trusted to give us the story in a proper manner.

Also, keep in mind that for many of us blacks have made us view them the way we do, through their actions and how they live their lives. That's a general statement because of course all blacks are not the same.

Indeed. I think Jimbo likes to play the devil's advocate and offer an objective opinion more than anything.

What Jim is saying is true. If it were three white guys that killed a random black guy, there would be outrage from the black community. It would be labeled a hate crime. Saying that doesn't make him a racist.

You might want to check with the Aborigines over there, they may have a different perspective on the subject. As late as the 60's their children were taken away and put in homes for absolutely no reason other than to deny then the opportunity to grow up in their own culture.

Again saussie, saying something doesn't make it true. You have no idea what you are talking about, and simply throw out labels like 'racist' and 'bigot' to try and deflect from your inability to prove otherwise.

You know nothing about me. Dr. King is a hero of mine, because he stood up to be counted, to right a grievous wrong, and died for what he believed in. You're again confusing my dislike for Oprah - an entertainer who happens to be black - for racism.

Guess what? I also don't like Chris Brown (who happens to be black). Do you know why? Because he beats on women, has an anger problem, and his music sucks. Very racist of me, right?

Your particular mindset is causing problems here in the US. Politically if one criticizes the President these days, they risk being called a racist. Why? Because the President is black. It can't possibly be because someone disagrees with his terrible economic policy, mismanaged foreign policy, or a general feeling that he's dangerously disconnected from what is happening around him. Nope, it can't be that... it has to be racism.

Someone is showing a true lack of understanding alright. And the only thing you seem to be outing is your own ignorance.

BTW, I guess everyone who understands what I am saying is a racist as well, yes? Or are they just not as smart and educated as you too?

All rational people can do is stand by what they believe. We see this kind of thing going on with every black/white crime and there will always be those who want to make it be about race when it's nothing more than fucked up individuals doing fucked up things.

This is how I see it also.

If a crime goes down where the suspect and victim are of different races, some in the media and public will automatically believe or cry out that there were racial implications, regardless of what the investigation uncovers as the actual motive.

If a crime goes down where the suspect and victim are of different races and the media or leaders don't automatically label it as having racial implications, some in the public will cry out, "had the races been reversed!..." every time.

Race-based and hate crimes still happen in the US (and across the globe); people get killed for being a certain color, or being gay, or being a certain religion... But, I think a lot of crimes in the US are exploited as such when it's just not the case.

A white guy can kill a black guy just because he wants his drugs or money or girlfriend, and vice versa. For me, the facts of the case matter when forming an opinion as to "why", not the predictable media slant by both the right and left, nor the opinion of others not involved in the case or the investigation. It's interesting to read/hear all of it, but it doesn't make it fact.

In this case, so far, investigators have reported that the teens shot Lane because they were wanna-be-gangstas who were bored. Lane ran by, they followed him in the car, Luna shot him in the back... They literally made him their kill target because they were bored and wanted to earn street cred. Nothing so far indicates that they figuratively "targeted" him because he was white, or Australian, or Christian...

So, I don't know if Chris Lane's murder had anything to do with his race or the races of his killers; doesn't look so to me at this time but not all the facts are in yet.

I don't think Jimbone is racist at all. We all have likes and dislikes. My fiance may be black but I don't very much care to hang or be around most blacks. That doesn't make me racist. That makes me cautious of who I hang around. Same goes for my own race.

Media Errors / Impact

Some media is more objective than others and all media is more objective on some topics than it is when it comes to race, IMO.

Misidentifying Suspect
FOX News reported that Lane was killed by three black teens and repeatedly showed this photo.

Does the person identified as Michael Jones in the photo above look anything like the actual suspect, Mike Jones, on the right below?

[Image: 35121359001_2620886425001_james-edwards-...-jones.jpg]

Terribly irresponsible journalism, IMO.

Inaccurate Potential Sentencing

It's also been reported in the media that the three teens could face the death penalty. AFAIK, because they are under 18, they cannot be subject to the death penalty in the US.

False Reporting of Shooter Confession?
It's also been reported that Mike Jones said, "I pulled the trigger" in court, causing many to speculate as to why he's not being charged as severely as the others at this time (he was the driver). The judge, the prosecutor, and LE who were present in the courtroom have all stated that Jones actually said, "I didn't pull the trigger", but the alleged reporting error continues to be reprinted in new stories about the case.

Regarding the suspects
-Edwards parents are both black.
-Jones is reportedly white, but I haven't seen either of his parents, so not sure if he's mixed race.
-Luna, who allegedly pulled the trigger and is pictured in the middle^, is half white.

Luna's mother has been the most vocal of the suspects' parents and says she cannot believe her son was the shooter, but if he was involved, she wants him held accountable.

[Image: 58dacd5d9c20ff7d98edb3acff8eb97d8159288b.jpeg]
Edwards's dad, Edwards's sister, and Luna's mom at their hearing last week

Whatever exactly made them kill Mr. Lane that day, I think they all deserve the harshest available sentences.
