Australian exchange student gunned down
#61
Sixfooters, I didn't say we don't have racism here. What you are referring to is the 'stolen generations' where children where taken away from their parents purely because they were black. The government has apologised to them for this and I believe they may be entitled to compensation. Having said that, there was much damage done by this policy, but these were the days of 'white Australia policy'. There is still an imbalance, and we try to rectify it by offering advantage to government jobs/universities and other areas, but the imbalance and social disadvantage still exists irrespective of these measures. Racism does exist here, just not to same degree over there.

To be honest I have my own social prejudges, that's true, I am honest about it, I think it may be wrong, but it is based on some negative experiences and now that is my perspective on it.

You're a fucking racist, Aussie. If JB were black you wouldn't be saying this shit to him.

That's why you like Oprah so much; she co-signs your racist bullshit.

Aussie, every time a crime here in America is committed by a white against a black , it is considered racism. No doubt about it whatsoever. Every time a crime is committed with a black on black or a black on white then it's just a crime. That's the way it is here and you are an insult to every American to claim any different.

Just curious, Sal, but does America create positions of employment specifically for native Americans that only they can apply for? Do they get free health care? Free education, including designated tertiary (college) positions? Financial assistance for cars, housing, education (non tertiary)? Welfare payments for being native American?

The ones that have survived are now having their culture swallowed by the casino and cigarette businesses. The smallpox got a bunch, alcohol a bunch more, the reservation system has done its share. They won't last much longer.
They do get all sorts of benefits by way of being partially indian provided by a certain date back there they were registered.
That's not to say many of them make it out into the real and make a living though

Memorial Attended by 500 People in Melbourne - RIP Chris Lane

Television footage of the funeral service was broadcast in evening news bulletins across Australia.

Peter Lane told mourners that the senseless way his son died made the tragedy harder to comprehend. But he said he was getting through the sadness with the help of a lesson he had learned from his only son about letting things go.

"What has happened to Chris is just not fair, but hanging on to it just won't help," he said.

He described his son as mature beyond his years, and said he had been planning a future with his girlfriend of four years.

The Oklahoma medical examiner said Tuesday that the bullet that killed Lane collapsed both of his lungs, fractured two ribs and tore through his aorta and pulmonary artery before lodging in his shoulder. The autopsy report supports the police theory that it was shot from a small-caliber weapon from behind by someone passing him in a car and that the shooter intended to kill Lane by aiming for his upper torso.

This is such a sad story & I feel so sorry for everyone who cared about this young man. I know I sound hotheaded sometimes when I shoot my mouth off, I do know that about myself so in keeping with that - I seriously want those boys to die for what they did. I don't even care who pulled the trigger, they were all involved in one way or another and I want them to pay with their life.

The family is utterly devastated. They were asked to comment on the gun laws and refused to be drawn into it because they said 'it won't bring him back'.

Pre-Trial Hearing

A gag order was issued in the case several months ago, so there's been little reporting on the developments, other than the charges against all three teen suspects have been bumped up to first degree murder in the senseless fatal shooting of Australian exchange student and baseball player Chris Lane.

Today, a hearing is scheduled and the three little assholes are all scheduled to appear. Hopefully, the details will be documented public record and we'll learn more.

Snip:
DUNCAN, Okla. — Three teenagers accused of fatally shooting an Australian baseball player as he jogged down an Oklahoma street, allegedly because they were bored, are expected in court Tuesday.

Police allege that Chancey Allen Luna and James Francis Edwards Jr., who are both 16, and Michael Dewayne Jones, 18, randomly targeted and shot Chris Lane last summer. Each teenager is charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators have said Lane was shot while jogging down a tree-lined street near the home of his girlfriend's parents in Duncan, about 80 miles south of Oklahoma City.

"They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: 'There's our target,'" Duncan Police Chief Ford said in August. "The boy who has talked to us (Jones) said: 'We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.'"

Prosecutors alleged that Luna pulled the trigger while sitting in the back seat of a car being driven by Jones, and Edwards was in the passenger seat.

Thanks, aussie.

"I thought the gun was full of blanks". That's some bullshit, right there.

But, given Jones' previous confession that the three were bored, wanted to see what it felt like to kill someone, and Lane was a convenient target, the suspects' attorneys don't have the option of claiming their clients weren't involved and/or it was an accident.

The defense is getting (unbelievably) creative and grasping at straws, IMO. I hope it doesn't work and don't think it will.

Next the three pricks will be saying “we feared for our lives!, we saw this big tall white cracker walking towards us in an agressive manner and we had no choice but to stand our ground and put a cap in his ass!”

Today, suspects Luna and Jones pleaded "not guilty" to the first degree murder of Chris Lane. The judge set their trials to begin on August 18th.

The other implicated teen, Edwards, is scheduled to be in court for a preliminary hearing on May 13. I think he might be working a deal to testify against the other two; JMO.

Sarah Harper, Chris Lane's girlfriend, attended today's arraignment.

Due to a gag order being issued, there aren't any more details available about what went down in court.

One suspect strikes a deal -- a new suspect is arrested

James Edwards Jr., the youngest of the suspects, struck a deal with the state in exchange for his testimony (don't have the details regarding the deal).

And, yesterday, Oddesse Barnes (pic below) was arrested on accessory-after-the-fact charges.

According to court papers, prosecutors are interested in Barnes because he kept officers from finding a key piece of evidence, the murder weapon.

On Friday, Barnes admitted to concealing the .22 caliber gun. A probable cause affidavit showed Barnes said Luna and his co-defendant, Michael Jones, handed off the murder weapon after the shooting last August.

Barnes indicated to investigators that Luna appeared jumpy and full of adrenaline, so he took the gun from Luna so that nothing bad would happen.

Barnes allegedly dropped the revolver into some tall grass near his home at the Elm Terrace Apartments, and the gun has not been seen since.

He was arraigned for accessory to murder after the fact in Stephens County. His bond is set at $150,000.

The details of Edwards' deal were confirmed/released today, Cheyne.

Edwards got a sweet one -- his charges were dropped from first degree murder down to accessory after the fact for agreeing to testify against Luna and Jones.

The trial is currently scheduled for August. I think that Luna and mostly likely Jones are gonna go down on life sentences.

The evidence and the case seemed strong even without Edwards testifying against them; IMO, he'll be the nail in their coffins (and he should probably consider a change of address, if he hasn't already made a move).

Their lives are worthless, dead or alive they have no meaning unlike the kid they killed who was filled with potential and had a life worth living. If it were up to me I'd want to apply some good, ol' medieval torture.

GUILTY PLEA -- 2ND DEGREE MURDER: LIFE IN PRISON WITH PAROLE POSSIBILITY

^ 19-year-old Michael DeWayne Jones has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the 2013 killing of Christopher Lane. He will be eligible for parole in 36 years.

Prosecutors say Jones was driving when a friend in his car fired the shot that killed Lane, who was out jogging in the city of Duncan, southwest of Oklahoma City.

As part of the plea deal, Jones will not testify against his friend, Chancey Allen Luna, whose trial on a first-degree murder charge is set to begin next month (Luna is the one who pulled the trigger).

Lane, a 22-year-old from Melbourne, was visiting his girlfriend before starting his senior year at East Central University in Ada. Investigators have said he was randomly targeted by bored teenagers.

Jones had been charged with first-degree murder, and could have faced life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder instead.

In court on Tuesday, Jones apologised to Lane's girlfriend and her parents, and asked for forgiveness. "I pray for you all daily", he said.
