Guns aren’t doing the killing though. They’re just a tool.
Remember, killers would find a way to get the job done if guns weren’t around.
Yeah, I imagine Beierle legally purchased and owned the handgun, but I haven't seen any statements about it in the news reports.
Though Beierle had been arrested twice for grabbing women, he wasn't prosecuted. I don't think he had a criminal record.
Latest reports indicate that some of the customers at the yoga studio fought back against the gunman. When Beierle's gun jammed, Joshua Quick was able to grab it, but Beierle got it back and pistol whipped him.
Quick ^ then grabbed a broom and attacked Beierle, which allowed some customers to get out of the building.
I haven't seen any details yet about the wounded victims, other than they're reportedly in stable condition. One was shot 9 times.

He's so brave. *sigh* Another horrible situation. Every time it happens now I hear MS in the back of my head saying all we have is to hope we never find ourselves in a similar situation. It can happen anywhere, at any time. I used to hear people say they never thought it would happen to them, it happens other places. I don't hear people say that anymore.

It's true.
While I don't think people should avoid doing things due to fear, the reality is that mass shootings by hateful extremists are going down in all kinds of public places.
And, much of the time, though the shooters had sent up red flags and had encounters with the law, they were able to legally purchase their weapons of choice.
The misogynist yoga studio gunman, Beierle, had been charged twice for grabbing women. He'd posted videos railing on women and blacks. He'd been fired from a Florida school district for touching a female student and fired from another for watching porn on the job. Story: https://www.ajc.com/news/national/tallah...NitCoZZNK/
Yet, Beierle continued to be hired to substitute teach at elementary, middle and high schools in Florida. That's one of the reasons I don't think arming teachers is the best solution to reducing the risk/fatalities associated with school shootings. Doing so could result in locking down and trapping students left to the mercy of a killer teacher or staff person.

That gave me the willies. I think because I now see how easily that exact scenario could happen.

There is an active shooter at a bar & grill in Thousand Oaks. I don't have any details because he's still shooting. Jesus Christ. Another day, another mass shooting.

Oh God. The sheriff's press conference is gut wrenching. One of his men was shot multiple times upon arriving to help, he has since died. I'm unsure if he is included in the 11 dead. Eleven dead. There are multiple gunshot victims. The shooter is dead.
This is a college bar and according to witnesses it was packed for Country night.

Incredibly awful news..........again. The Borderline Bar and Grill is a popular gathering spot in Thousand Oaks for locals and students of Pepperdine University.
Sometimes Borderline offers line dancing lessons and open the doors to teens 18 or older too, like last night.
This is the hero veteran police officer who rushed into the packed bar in attempt to stop the shooting.
Officer Ron Helus was with the force of 29 years. He is credited with saving lives. Rest in Peace.
Helus was fatally shot, presumably by the mass shooter who was reportedly a bearded male dressed head-to-toe in black, and died shortly thereafter at the hospital.
The shooter hasn't yet been identified. There are reports that he tossed smoke bombs into the bar, but police say they haven't yet found evidence to support that claim yet.
Police say they found a semi-automatic gun at the scene, where the shooter reportedly committed suicide after killing at least 11 people.

The shooter has been identified as 28-year-old ^ Ian Long. (Edited with new pic)
He used a Glock .45 with an extended magazine which allowed him to fire more bullets without reloading.
Long purchased the gun legally. California law limits magazine/clip capacity to 10 rounds, so the extender was illegal.
Long had been the subject of a disturbance call back in April. Police called in their crisis and mental health unit who evaluated him at the home and determined that he did not merit being taken into involuntary custody for mental health treatment.
Long was a Marine Corp veteran.
Patrons/victims hid under tables and in bathrooms. They threw barstools through windows when Long was reloading so some could escape.
Six off duty officers were in the bar at the time of the shooting and reportedly shielded young patrons.

Such complete bullshit from the NRA.
Of course the doctors who treat gunshot victims are highly qualified to weigh-in on the public health risk associated with gunshot wounds.

Ann Coulter is saying everyone should have been armed. What a brilliant idea, nothing's better than a Mexican standoff in a packed venue.

Thousand Oaks, California -- Mass Shooting Update
Man, it's heartbreaking hearing some of the family members talk about the loss of the young victims in the Thousand Oaks mass shooting last night. :(
Most of the victims at the Borderline Bar and Grill were apparently students of Pepperdine and Cal Lutheran Universities, along with workers at the bar and Sgt. Helus.
The deceased shooter, Long, served 5 years in Afghanistan as a machine gunner. He was reportedly honorably discharged a couple of years back.
He lived with his mom, whom friends say is a very kind lady who was worried that her son had PTSD and would hurt himself or others. The home is about 7 miles from the bar.
Including the shooter, 13 people were killed last night. Another dozen were wounded, some of whom are in serious condition. The mayor is asking for blood donations.

^ That's saddening and maddening. The mass shootings are out of control in this country.
Several Democratic midterm winners made gun safety/control a major aspect of their platforms.
So, there will quite likely be a stronger push out of the House to pass common sense gun laws. I hope they make progress.
^ One such newly elected House Representative is Lucy McBath. She just won Georgia's 6 th district.
McBath became interested in running for office after her son was senselessly and violently murdered.
McBath's son Jordan Davis was shot to death in a Florida parking lot by Michael David Dunn in 2012 because Dunn thought Jordan and his friends were playing their music too loud. Dunn will spend the rest of his life in prison for taking the life of young Jordan.

I remember reading about a survivor of the San Bernadino mass shooting who also went on to survive the Las Vegas mass shooting.
Last night, several other survivors of the Las Vegas mass shooting were hanging out at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks.
Sadly, one of the group of close-knit friends was among the 12 people shot to death by another mass shooter.
27-year-old Telemachus Orfanos worked at Borderline and was also a product specialist for Infiniti, in addition to being a Navy veteran. Rest in Peace.
His mother, Susan Schmidt-Orfanos, gave a heartbreaking interview today, her anguish at another mass shooting, this one taking her oldest child, almost too painful to watch.
“My son was in Las Vegas with a lot of his friends and he came home,” she said. “He didn’t come home last night. And I don’t want prayers, I don’t want thoughts, I want gun control,” Schmidt-Orfanos said, her voice breaking with the rawness of her emotions. “And I hope to God nobody else sends me any more prayers. I want gun control. No more guns!” https://www.redlandsdailyfacts.com/2018/...sand-oaks/

A high school coach speaks about the shooter when he was a senior in High School. He had grabbed her and groped her over a lost cell phone.
The other coaches and school administration told her to not kick him off the track team-giving the reason of ruining his future.
Interesting.
Source is from a local LA page. It had so many pop ups though I could barely get through the article. I am looking for other sources now.
I first heard of the story from a feminist website talking about white male priveliage.
