Age requirements, gun safety, teaching gun responsibility is not even the point here....Why do we permit assault rifles in the U.S?

It might not be the point for you but it was for me. I don't give a shit how adept a kid is with a gun, I'm not handing a 6 yr. old a goddamn gun.

Both of my boys earned their marksmanship belt loop & pin (Cub Scouts) around age 7.

Any 6 plus year old that attends a Cub Scout Camp is allowed to shoot a BB gun and earn that pin. As a matter of fact, up until about 4 years ago, the scout leader didn't even need parental permission to put a BB gun in a childs' hands.

These days, if a scout wants to do one of the shooting sports, they have to have parental permission, a doctors note, & purchase some sort of insurance through Boy Scouts.

I use the term Modern sporting rifle.
Assault is a action, not a device.

That is a video of the same 13 year old girl. There is no way to become a champion shooter at the age of 13 unless they start at a young age.
If you have not ben to a 3 gun match you wont know exactly how har it is to shoot reload and change guns on the move. This young girl makes it look easy, but trust me, it is not.

Here is a look at another course with a adult male running.

The ar-15 is king in the 3 gun world. It is light , fast, his hi cap mags, and is easily configured and reconfigured to a specific shooters needs. Need different optics, pop the current one off and go iron sights or different preZeroed scope on. Stock to long, push a button and shorten it up. Need a longer or shorter barrel pull a couple pins and put a new one on it. The AR is far from just a war machine. Just because it has a big brother, the M4, that is a fully auto war machine don't mean these semi auto look alikes are war machines.

She is pretty good, struggled a bit with the shotgun but its a heavy gun for a small person to handle.
Nice to see young people, especially girls involved in shooting.

The young girl was very capable, and although she struggled reloading the shotgun, she handled the recoil remarkably well. She handled the handgun and rifle very well like a pro.

However, I am curious, since all the targets were in the open, and did not have any visible backstops was there a danger for a stray bullet to harm a person not visible off in the distance? Shooting straight on at those targets seemed dubious, as the handgun and rifle bullets are able to travel miles thought the trees.

These shoots are always conducted in a safe location, usually at a established range with backstops.
There is a starting line the shooter stands at and ALL others are behind them. The score keeper is the only other person allowed to cross this line after the starting buzzer has gone off. He follows the shooter with the time keeper. The time machines used keep track of each shot fired after the starting buzzer has gone off. I hope that makes sense.

I would love to shoot against her just once. She is a pretty good shot. Just think what she will be able to do when she is a little older and the shotty isn't a issue for her any longer.

I kinda knew the shoot was at an established range, and I was sure the score keeper as well all others were behind the line of fire. But I was thinking more about off in the distance where the trees were. Where a freak rifle bullet could possibly go past the targets, and into the tree areas for a mile or more. Highly unlikely, but could it be possible? More important question, is there human life past those trees within two miles or less? If not, question answered, no problem.

All ranges are different Cars, so I cant say for sure weather they are ALL as safe as the ones I use. I can say that everything that can be done is done to make it safe. The last thing a range wants is for someone to get injured.

The police report was released today.

The New Jersey family was shuttled from a monster truck ride to the Bullets and Burgers range.

The girl didn't know she'd shot the instructor at the time; she dropped the gun because it was too heavy for her and went to her family members who were focused on her.

Another instructor is the one that realized that the girl's instructor was hit and rushed to help him, called 911 for a helicopter. The instructor was still breathing and convulsing at the time.

The girl's family didn't permit police to question her because they were too upset and wanted to go back to Vegas, but the mom allowed them to view her cell phone footage.

Prosecutors say the most negligent person was the dead instructor and confirmed no charges will be filed.
