Happy Father's Day Weekend to Mock Fathers

I recognize that there are some kind and decent fathers here at Mock and though I know it isn't easy I also recognize that you have probably raised some kind and decent human beings.

My youngest daughter is in graduate school for mechanical engineering, she got picked to go to a conference in Oxford next month and wants to work for NASA.

Thanks Mirah. It is not Father's Day here but I really do appreciate the sentiment.

My daughter turned 19 the other day. She has grown into a lady far better than I deserve. I marvel at her. She is rarely home. She works nights and stays over her friends or boyfriend's house. I missed her terribly. When she first came in to my complete custody she was a broken little doll and has become a confident, self-determined, forthright, self-driven young lady with a lot of agency and we are very close. I am so very proud of her.

My son is not close to me. That was the necessary trade off to look after my little girl. He was closer with Mother and whether he saw my fighting for my daughter as a betrayal or not himself, or whether his mother passed her thoughts on this to him, I do not know. He is an Autistic boy and both rigid and impressionable, which was never a great combination when it came to critical thought. He apparently is happy and in fact dating (He is a very handsome boy and his innocent childlike nature can be very endearing) a lady many years older than him. His is living semi-independently in my ex-wife's second home. He is working. I get snippets here and there which I hang onto. His "stuff' I had accumulated over the years I really need to bring myself to throw out. I love him of course and wish him the very best and hope in time he can take some real stock of whatever bullshit he was told and reach out. I tell myself year after year, one day but I am now convinced that is wishful thinking and there is nothing critical or constructive in fairytales.

I appreciate the sentiments though and it will be remembered.

I think you said you gave her your truck last year or the year before so she could have it for school?

Sounds like she's really committed to achieving her goal and on the road to making it happen.  The Oxford conference is an earned honor -- very cool.

Happy Father's Day Biggie.

Thanks for sharing Fry Guy.

I had to post something positive recognizing that there are good fathers out there. This weekend isn't easy for me as I don't prefer to call my father and wish him Happy Father's day, though I might call him on Saturday. I usually do a pretty good job of avoiding this weekend, but because I have to work I decided I needed to find some positive and give credit to those that have at least participated in their kids lives.

Mirah, we do not get to choose our parents. We may get lucky on this score or not. But it is admirable to be able to look out from yourself and wish goodwill and happiness on those who managed to get lucky in this regard especially when you were not so lucky. I rate it highly.

I appreciate that. Thank you.

Yeah, sometimes I suspect the UPS guy was a brainiac. I sold the Truck{it was Two wheel drive) and bought her a very low mileage forester with the all weather package when she moved from Chicago where public transportation is the bomb to Urbana where it is less so. I love Chicago but it was springtime, winter I would probably hate it.

Ah, that's right.  Now I remember you saying you gave up your truck to get her suitable transportation for school when you first mentioned she aspired to work for NASA.

Chicago is brutal in winter, for me.  I'd rather put up with scorching heat for a few months (which is my new reality) than freezing temperatures.

Anyway, I hope you and the other dads at Mock have a great Father's Day weekend.

I hate fathers day. The kids tell my husband happy father's day and maybe give him a card and that's it. On the other hand I am the one who is expected to massage his feet and slave in the kitchen all day cooking for him like he's a king, he's not my damn dad. Anyway Happy Father's Day, men.

Happy Fathers Day, Mock daddies. I hope you have a nice day...I guess. It already sorta seems like you do everyday while your wives get the shitty end of the stick. Anyway, cheers!
