Oh Piglet. I would never dare to present myself as any kind of competent cook. There are a few things I do passably well, but in general, I loathe cooking and that probably plays a role in why I suck at it. I do other things well. My home is always clean & tidy and I do great laundry and I'm a hella good gardener. It's the only place I like color.

I think you are underestimating yourself Duchess. Your thoughts are currency, what you think goes. Try " i am good at all things", and so shall it be, especially when your subconscious responds.
Mirah, i just checked my oil bottle, it is sunflower oil, pure. Seems like you town has no call for it.

It doesnt matter, vegetable oil is just as good, as long as its light. Olive oil is to heavy and has a too strong taste, and getting the temperature up to a frying temerature to cook the spices is a job, a light oil will be flavoured easily.
The above looks tasty. I am a cumin fan, it has a cutting edge that is extremely satisfying. I could mainline it, or eat it in a sandwich, only kidding. Its very bitter and needs balancing with sweetness.
The other side to a spice cupboard is the smell when you open it. When im cooking a curry i sniff coriander and nutmeg, it transports me back to childhood for some reason, there is something fundamental in there, from the beginnig of time. Its aroma therapy. Good luck with your job hunting.

No, a spice cake is a new one on me, it doesnt go together naturally in my head anyway. Its like a fish curry, asians do that a lot, but i cant take to that, at all. Fish and spice dont mix.
What spices are in there? It reminds me of an episode in taxi where Latka did his special cookies.

I went to an Asian market and got a bunch of weird vegetables and fruits. My family is afraid to try it because it looks poisonous. What do I do with Indian bitter melon? I'm thinking of a curry of course.

Nutmeg and cloves.
I like to add cinnamon and ginger, all spice and cardamom and vanilla. And then I make an additional sugar topping w/ brown sugar and all those spices just mentioned.
I suppose this would taste good as a carrot cake but I haven't tried that yet.
I know nothing of a bitter melon.

I never seen anything like this market before, I may as well have been in China. They had jelly fish heads, what in the hell do you do with jelly fish heads? I guess when in a doubt you make curry.

Cooking a curry will fill your house with a curry aroma, and your neighbours will know whats cooking. The aroma is divine. Im impressed that a lot of people have had a curry. If you havent got an authentic curry restaurant near you Duchess, making your own is a skilled business.
Buying it out of a jar is laughable. The best curry chefs can take five years to do it properly. There are many dos and donts in making curry, all of them making a big difference. Its how to cook the onions, frying the spices, the use of water at the right time, the balance between heat and no heat, how to do the base gravy.
You need to try and get an authentic curry Duchess, if you like it try doing your own. There are many videos on you tube. Kings Lynn, up the road from me has a wonderful restaurant. Doing your own competently is a tough ask, maybe i can come over and coach you through it.

Yeah right you're over 60, there's not much you can eat without farting. I bet you stink out your children and friends, maybe some family members who don't take Gas X.
