I try not to see color in a friendship. One of Rick's closest friends is a black guy...he calls himself our "token black friend" but he he always there if something is needed. He even spoke at our wedding, and gave the blessing at dinner.

Speaking of racism...I grew upin the 60's and 70's. Graduated high school in 72. Smaller city, with not a lot of blacks. Only 2 or 3 in my graduating class. Anyway, one guy, Kevin, and I had been school friends since about the 7^th grade. One day, while we were i high school, I was out shopping with my mom...this was back when folks actually shopped om Main Street. Anyway, I ran into Kevin, and we stopped for a minute and talked about some class we were in together. My mom went absolutly bonkers. Had all kinds of fits about what people would think..seeing me out in the open talkig to a black boy. Christ..we were standig about 3 feet apart from each other as we talked. To listen to my mom you would have sworn we got all down and dirty right there on Main Street.

I am glad I never inherited that racism.

You would have to know this woman "Uhura" to get why it's funny. She's a fuckingasshole and loved to start threads about whitepeople being racist. I am suddenly reminded of a black young man I worked with at one time. Single dad, good worker, and a hell of a nice guy. BUT..to him everything was against the blacks. We had several converations about what he felt was racisim, and the holding back of blacks.

We were talking about tv and movies once. A reminder..this was in the late 80s or so. I mentioned that I liked Morga Freeman as an actor, after seeing him in Driving Miss Daisy. A reminder..his character was a chauffer for an older woman over a period of years from about the late 40's to the 70's or so. Anyway, the co-worker bitched about "all blacks getting roles as servants, and the role was demeaning." I mentioned that in the time frame of the movie, especially the earlier years, domestic work or factory work was often all the work they were able to get. He had no response to that.

We spoke of the show Star Trek The Next Generation..he cried that the only two blacks in major roles had their faces covere...the Klingon (who happened to be head of security) and the chief engineer..who had his eyes covered with a visor that helped him see.

And let us not even talk about what he thought of James Earl Jones giving voice to Darth Vadar for gods sake. He was pissed that some have not heard of him prior to the role.

Cripes. Sometimes folks just need to get over the feeling that the whole world is against them.

My lawn looks like shit. It's not a redneck trailer trash lawn, but I'm not very good about keeping it manicured either. I have the kids go out there and pick up the dog shit and mow every couple of weeks.
