I just read that a man on a bus stabbed his seatmate and then proceeded to decapitate him and show the head to the people outside the bus...I fear that I would actually be frozen in horror, unable to move a step if I ever witnessed something like that...Its unimaginable to me.

teddy probably killed 100 women, but he didn't mutilate them. this was a clear case of madness. that poor kid had just worked a fair, and was going home. fell asleep on the bus with his headphones on. what horror. i feel so awful for his family.

I agree OP. It is very hard to do anything when something like that is happening. first reaction for most is to freeze, or run.
When I was a lifeguard growing up I 2 times had to seriously save someone and then perform cpr. each time one of the other lifeguards froze (a different person each time) and was slow to react and I was first in the water. it just is human nature. One interesting point is that they did stop the bus, get everyone off and then trap him inside. so it is amazing in all of that movement and confusion no one else was attached by the nutcase. Kill HIM.

When it comes to fight or flight, flight is generally the most sensible option 99% of the time.
The only time I would rush to the rescue would be to save a relative or friend. Too many people here think they are fucking Batman.
