The "Dave's not here Man" is a hot link to an article.

Maybe linked text in a post needs to be different colored when created?

I mean, where else could you actually sell out your supply of stale cheetos covered in chocolate? Or grilled ketchup and sugar sandwiches on white bread? ::lol::

I'm assuming no one picked up on the Cheech and Chong "Dave's not home" schtick...I'm showing my age I guess. They went right along with the Furry Freak Brothers, Fat Freddies Cat, Screaming Yellow Zonkers, Mr. Natural, and of course, killer weed...heh

I know who Cheech & Chong are and killer weed is vaguely familiar but, I have no clue about the rest unless I google it.

I thought it was a Cheech and Chong line, but since I haven't seen one of their movies in probably over 25 years, I'm not really remembering it.

Screaming Yellow Zonkers were the best flavored popcorn ever.

The stuff was seriously cool when I was a little kid, I begged my mom to buy it just for the great box.

Here's the Wiki entry on it:

Quote:Screaming Yellow Zonkers was a snack food, first produced by Lincoln Snacks in the USA in the 1960s. Screaming Yellow Zonkers are popcorn with a yellow sugary glaze, in a black box.

Lincoln Snacks asserts that SYZs were the first food item to be packaged in black.[citation needed] The box contained humorous copy, such as suggestions about what to do with Screaming Yellow Zonkers, or that 8 oz. (226g) = 1/4,409 of a metric ton. (This comic content was provided by Allan Katz and Howie Krakow who wrote the copy on the first several boxes, and the award-winning TV and radio campaigns.) Zonkers were geared toward those who enjoy sweetened popcorn without nuts, as opposed to products like Cracker Jack. Screaming Yellow Zonkers were kosher, but did contain dairy products.

While the front of the package was simple and understated, the rest of the Zonkers box was completely covered with absurdist copy, accompanied by illustrations, informing the reader everything from “how to wash Zonkers” to “how to mate them”. The bottom of the box explained how to determine if it were indeed the bottom: “Open the top, and turn the box upside down. If the Zonkers fall out, this is the bottom. If they fall up, this is the top. If nothing happens, this box is empty.”

World-class illustrators became a part of the Zonkers phenomenon. Airbrush artist Charlie White illustrated the front of the Circus box while Seymour Chwast’s work decorated the rest. White also illustrated a giant Zonkers circus poster, inspired by more of Katz’s copy. The poster was offered on the circus box for “$2.95 to include shipping, handling, and profit.” The circus box ended up being displayed in the Louvre in Paris.

OK how fucked up is it that I have all the Cheech and Chong movies?
They were the Saturday Midnight Movie we went to. Friday was Rocky Horror.
For a time Saturday was rotated between some weird shit like Caligula, Eraserhead, Cheech and Chong, Children of the Corn, Hairspray etc.

Weird times.

My mom wouldnt' let us eat the zonkers. :(

My mom wouldn't let me have bubblegum, any kind of soft drink or kool-aid. or peanut butter and jelly sammiches since she was paranoid about cavities. Yet she let me have an occasional box of sticky, candied popcorn. Weird, huh?

I don't think it's fucked up... I love Cheech & Chong (though like Lumps, I haven't watched them in ages) and funky movies are my favorite.

We did the same thing with Acapulco Gold.

We were in the mall today because there was supposed to be a Rock 'N Roll memorabilia show (what a waste all in all) and there was one vendor there with vinyl - the original Big Bambu with the ORIGINAL rolling paper still in the fold!

I kept looking through his box of records saying, "I got this one, I got this one, I got this one." and then there was some guy next to me and he started saying the same thing to his kids..... was kind of funny to watch the kids say, "i never heard of this guy...."!
