"Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford delayed a lawsuit asking him to disqualify an NAACP election Friday because he is not sure the case belongs in his courtroom

Members of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter are asking Bedford to put aside the results of its November election and install the candidates they backed because they contend the state NAACP backed illegal voting and illegally manipulated the results.

"What they did to the NAACP members during the November election is tantamount to what Jim Crow did to African-Americans," said Atlanta City Councilman Michael Julian Bond, a named plaintiff in the case who was one of the candidates in the NAACP election.

Lonnie King, a former president of the Atlanta chapter, said he brought the lawsuit to curb corruption in the chapter after two employees were accused of misappropriating more than $250,000. Two staff members were arrested last year. The Fulton County District Attorney is investigating and has brought no charges.
