I hope this isn't yet another case of an officer killing himself and making it look like a homicide. We've covered a few of those in this thread. I'm not assuming it is, but the details being released reflect a strange set of circumstances.
The search for a suspect in the killing of Baltimore Police Detective Sean Suiter continued Friday, with the reward increasing to nearly $215,000 and investigators struggling to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Tactical operations were expected to continue through the weekend in the area of West Baltimore where the officer was shot about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Police said they were pursuing leads but have not determined the identity of the suspect. They were still working to clarify even the sequence of events that led to Suiter’s shooting.
Police Commissioner Kevin Davis confirmed that “more than one” shot was fired from Suiter’s service weapon, which was recovered from the scene. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the veteran officer was killed with his own gun. “We’re not ruling anything out,” Davis said.
Police have said Suiter, 43, was conducting follow-up investigation on a triple homicide in the 900 block of Bennett Place when he saw someone acting suspiciously in a vacant lot and approached. The detective, a married father of five, was shot once in the head. He was pronounced dead Thursday.
Police confirmed that in the frantic aftermath of the shooting, Suiter was put into a police car to be driven to Maryland Shock Trauma Center as quickly as possible. The vehicle collided with another police car while en route, and Suiter was then loaded into an ambulance and admitted to the hospital.

New Kensington, Pennsylvania
Another officer was shot and killed and the killer is on the loose.
Unlike the Baltimore officer killing, police in New Kensington have a possible clue as to the identity of the suspect. They've located a vehicle which they believe was involved in the crime.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. ET Friday in New Kensington, about 18 miles from Pittsburgh. Officer Brian Shaw was shot after a traffic stop led to him pursuing someone on foot, according to authorities.
The 25-year-old officer had been with the New Kensington Police Department for less than a year. Rest in Peace.
"I can tell you standing there listening to the officers share stories about how he was vibrant, how he brought smiles and entertainment and wit and humor into their lives, he was obviously a very special person just by listening to how they talked about him," Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steven Limani said at a press conference Saturday.
Limani would not discuss other details of the case, including the reason for the traffic stop, saying it could compromise the ongoing investigation. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect they are searching for.
The discovery of the vehicle came after an announcement that the reward offered for information leading to an arrest of the gunman rose to $40,000 on Saturday, as an intense manhunt continued. Police found an unoccupied Jeep Grand Cherokee not far from the scene that was wanted in connection with the shooting.

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. -- Suspect Identified / Manhunt Underway
Police say they arrested the driver of an SUV that fled a traffic stop, leaving behind a passenger who fatally shot a rookie police officer in suburban Pittsburgh.
Police on Sunday arrested Tavon Jamere Harper, who they say fled the traffic stop after the passenger bolted from the SUV. Harper faces drug and fleeing charges.
Pennsylvania State Police are searching for 29-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt, pictured above. He's the passenger accused of killing Officer Brian Shaw during the traffic stop Friday night.
New Kensington Police Chief Jim Klein had a pointed message for the man they believe gunned down their brother in blue: "We will find you. We will arrest you. And we will prosecute you so you will be held accountable for what has occurred."
Holt has a criminal record reportedly dating back to 2007, which includes firearm and drug charges.
Officers from different towns are pitching in on the manhunt so the town's police department can grieve Shaw's death.

Good news -- ^ Holt was captured and arrested early this morning.
The FBI, Marshals, Allegheny County Police and the Pittsburgh SWAT team surrounded a home in the 5000 block of Ladora Way. They had been following Holt throughout the night as he moved from Duquesne to Homewood and eventually to the home in Hazelwood.
Three people were arrested for hindering Holt's apprehension, including his mother. Four other people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Sounds like the PD is still fighting corruption in the force.
The killing of Officer Sean Suiter is a strange case.
It's been confirmed that Suiter was shot in the head with his own service weapon while his partner was across the street. The gun was left at the scene.
Baltimore Chief of Police Kevin Davis confirmed that Suiter was scheduled to testify in a federal case against a number of Baltimore police officers the day after he was shot (and then was delayed getting medical assistance when the police car in which he was being transported collided with another police car).
The indicted officers were part of the Gun Trace Task Force which was chartered with getting illegal guns off the streets. They allegedly wrongly detained residents in order to steal money, property and drugs. They're also accused of falsifying police reports and lying to federal investigators.
The Chief says there's no indication that Officer Suiter's death is associated with the corruption case. We'll see.

Thoughts and prayers pour in from across the country for fallen DPS trooper Damon Allen who was shot to death on Thanksgiving Day. Allen was a married father of three. Rest in Peace.
Texas DPS officials said Allen stopped Dabrett Montreal Black on the southbound lanes of I-45 near Fairfield for a traffic violation around 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
Allen approached the vehicle and made contact with Black. After he returned to his patrol unit, DPS officials believe Black fired multiple shots with a rifle at the trooper. He died at the scene.
According to the Waller County Sheriff's Office, Black drove from Freestone County in a Chevy Malibu to Waller County near Prairie View. In Waller County, the suspect was involved in a shooting near Liendo Parkway and Wyatt Chapel, deputies said.
33-year-old Black ^ was wounded in the leg by a bullet and also bitten by a K-9 before being taken into custody just after 9 p.m. He was taken to a hospital in Bryan for observation.
I'll be surprised if Black doesn't get the death penalty. Fucker.

Rest in Peace Officer Eric Overall of Oakland County.
Overall was killed in the line of duty on Thanksgiving morning. He was 50 years old and is survived by his wife.
Officer Overall was a 22 year veteran of the force and described as a friendly and committed officer who worked as cafeteria liaison at schools and strived to help children.
He was struck down in the road by a suspect who was leading fellow officers on a long chase.

The 22-year-old suspect ^ worked at a local pizza joint, lived with his parents, and has a minor criminal record and a history of mental health issues.
He had showed up at the local jail identifying himself as “God” and saying he was “there to break out one of his sons (followers) being held there in violation of man-made laws" before taking off and being chased by officers.
Officer Overall was laying stop sticks to help apprehend the suspect when the suspect ran him down and killed him. Police officials claim the suspect turned his vehicle with the intent of hitting Overall.
Berak is charged with first degree premeditated homicide and murder of a police officer, both carry life in prison sentences if he’s convicted. He was denied bond.

Very few people seem to believe that Officer Sean Suiter was killed in the park by some character lurking in the shadows who just happened to shoot Suiter with his own gun and leave it at the scene only hours before Suiter was to testify against the dirty officers.
The dirty cop pictured in the middle ^, Wayne Earl Jenkins, allegedly used Suiter as a patsy to find drugs other officers planted on two suspects back in 2010. Suiter was not dirty and was going to testify as to how the bad bust went down.
That bad bust resulted in the two framed defendants pleading guilty because they figured nobody would believe their word over the cops (they were very likely correct, in my opinion). It also resulted in an elderly man being killed during a police chase.
Did it also result in ^ Officer Suiter being sabotaged again and executed by fellow officers before he could testify?
LE announced late last week that they'd investigated the possibility that Suiter committed suicide, but there's no evidence pointing in that direction.
With questions and suspicion mounting, Baltimore PD Commissioner Kevin Davis has called in the FBI to investigate. I think that's a good move.

San Marcos, Texas
San Marcos Police Chief Chase Stapp said at a news conference that officer Kenneth Copeland, 58, was fatally shot when he and a small contingent of officers were ambushed at 2:23 p.m. while attempting to serve a warrant on a violent offender in the El Camino Real subdivision.
"Shortly after their arrival, it appears this individual began firing at the officers much like in an ambush-type situation," he said.
Copeland, who was wearing ballistic armor, was struck several times, police said. Officers pulled him out of the area and rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"Ken's a hero ... today was his day off," Stapp said before pausing. "He worked just about every day off to provide for his kids because he knows that we're short-handed and that we need help."
Copeland is the first San Marcos police officer to be killed in the line of duty. A 19-year-veteran of the force, he leaves behind a wife, Shiela, and four children: Nile, Noah, James and Jonah. Rest in peace.
The suspect eventually surrendered and was shot; it's not clear by whom. He has not been identified and is in the hospital.

Awful way to end the year for Douglas County PD. :(
Five deputies were shot, one fatally, and two civilians were also injured in a shooting in an affluent suburban county outside of Denver.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office tweeted deputies responded to a domestic disturbance Sunday morning that resulted in shots being fired.
They say five deputies and two civilians were shot by the suspect. One deputy was confirmed dead.
The suspect was shot and believed to be dead. The sheriff's office tweeted he is believed to be "no longer a threat." http://6abc.com/5-deputies-shot-1-fatall...r/2844288/

The officers and suspect have not been identified publicly yet. Hoping the four wounded officers pull through.

Fortunately, the four wounded deputies and two wounded civilians are confirmed to be in stable condition.
The Douglas County Sheriff was near tears when he gave a press conference today and identified the murdered deputy.
^ Zackari Parrish, 29, is survived by his wife and two children.
He was new to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. He had only worked for the department for about seven months, transferring from another agency.
Parrish is described as a very eager and enthusiastic public servant and a devoted husband and father. RIP.
The sheriff said his wife is devastated, understandably. Very sad.

A happy, beautiful family.
I've seen so many LEO's say that domestic disturbances are one of the calls they hate to get the most and LC would reiterate that whenever these stories popped up. I feel sad for everyone that cared about him.

This is the man who shot 7 people at an apartment complex near Denver this morning, killing deputy Zackari Parrish.
The killer, Matthew Riehl - 37, was in a dispute with his roommate and police were called. He'd barricaded himself in a room and shot five responding officers immediately upon their entry. He was then shot dead.
Yet again, the cop killer was a veteran. He served nine years in the military, two of them deployed in Iraq.
He had ranted about the sheriff and local deputies in the past and police had responded to the apartment earlier this morning as well (but it's being reported no noise was going down when they arrived that time, so no action was taken).
