The Outer Banks of NC are beautiful. Myrtle Beach is where you go if you want to go clubbing and such though.

I've been all over Myrtle too, especially North Myrtle. I like NC beaches better than SC though. I love Pleasure Island - Kure Beach and Fort Fisher.

I have never been north of Wilmington and always wondered why. However as an adult I see why---4 kids, no AC in car. 5 hrs to Myrtle compared to 8+ to NC beaches? My parents weren't no fools. Parents now have a *gasp* trailer in Surfside. It is our family vacation home. Again Redneck Rivera *snort*

It's rare to read a really interesting story out of that paper. The one story that stands out in my mind occurred 5 plus years ago. It was about that dirt poor alcoholic Mexican man that was murdered in the Catawba county jail. If any parent had strapped a child into a chair with a hood over their head and left them to die by slowly drowning in their own blood, they would be on death row! It is absurd that the sheriffs dept. was cleared of any wrong doing what so ever!
The HDR at first vented their outrage at the brutal treatment of that human being, but for some reason they backed off.

That should have been all over the news & they should have been held accountable. So, your jails down there torture people, eh.

That poor Mexican man's bail was $800. His family was on their way to bail him out, but they were a couple days late.
That man should have been put in the hospital. A true alcoholic can die from a cold turkey detoxing. I suppose there were a few jailers who enjoyed a little sadistic satisfaction at the sight of a fellow human being suffering. Since there were no charges of wrong doing filed by the SBI. there were a couple more mysterious deaths of inmates during the year or two afterward. Inmates are like Jews in Hitlers Germany, once they have been significantly stigmatized as low life vermin, no one cares how they are treated. The public takes an; They deserve what they get attitude, and overlooks evil.

Learning that life isn't fair has been the hardest "life lesson" to learn & I'm not so sure I've learned it yet. It bothers me at times that money is the invisible line that determines how people are treated.

i don't know details of Hickory inmate incident. hate to make comments until i see the whole story. but i will tell you that you have no idea the crap jail officers put up with. i did it for 3 years.
a hood? was it a spit mask? was he spitting at officers? fuck that shit. and the restraint chair is for out-of-control inmates who may hurt themselves or others. it is sometimes absolutely necessary.

As it is now a high school diploma is all the education required to work in law enforcement.

I have no doubt that jail officers encounter a lot of crap, Ive never had a job that was perfect, but training is suppose to prepare you to deal with it. The Mexican had one of his ribs broken and it punctured a lung. The jailers left him alone unobserved for who knows how long strapped in that chair. When he was checked on it was too late.

I'm getting all antsy and claustraphobic just looking at that chair.
