Suspects Charged In Bobo Case To Appear In Court Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three men charged with kidnapping and murder in the death of Holly Bobo are expected to appear in court Wednesday.

Jason Autry, Zach Adams, and Dylan Adams are expected to be arraigned in a Decatur County court on new charges brought against them in the case.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - All of the evidence in the Holly Bobo murder case is finally on the table. Defense attorneys now have full access to the criminal file completing a big step toward setting a trial date.

There is said to be an entire room at Tennessee Bureau of Investigation headquarters dedicated to evidence collected in the Bobo case over the past four years. The evidence is the heart of the capital cases now pending against three murder suspects.

Trial Delayed until 2017

Decatur County Chancery Judge C. Creed McGinley said during a hearing yesterday that he wants "to try this case once and do it correctly."


Brothers Zach and John Dylan Adams and Jason Autry are charged in the death of Holly Bobo, who disappeared from her home in April 2011.

They are charged with premeditated murder as well as murder in the perpetration of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.



I feel so bad for Holly's parents and brother ^, but they support the judge's decision.

A Bobo family spokesman, pastor Don Franks, said the family was disappointed the case likely won't be tried for another year but completely agrees with the judge's desire "to do it one time and do it right."

It's been a year since you posted this comment................and still no trials.

Here's a brief update on the case as of last week.

DEFENDANTS/CHARGES:
--Jason Autry and brothers Dylan and Zachary Adams are all accused of aggravated kidnapping, rape, and killing of Holly Bobo, the 20-year-old nursing student who disappeared in 2011.

TRIAL DATES & STATUS:
--The judge has not decided whether or not he will be severing the cases for Dylan and Zachary Adams. If their case is heard together, they will be tried on April 3, 2017. If they are tried separately, one of them will be tried on April 3, 2017 and a separate trial date will be set for the other brother/defendant.

--Jason Autry's trial has been severed; he will be tried separate from the Adams brother. His trial date has been set for July 10, 2017.

TRIAL VENUE:
--During last week's hearing, the judge said that a change of venue will likely happen to ensure a fair trial for the men. The trials will most likely be held in Hardin County.

TRIAL SECURITY & DISPLAYS:
--Judge Creed McGinley has already inquired about security. “Metal detectors, as well as X-rays and potentially the dogs might be run."

--The defense raised concerns about bias, including trial attendees wearing pink and green ribbons representing justice for Bobo displayed across Decatur County. McGinley assured them that as the trial date approaches, things will change. “I will not tolerate signs, placards, t-shirts, anything that could be perceived as trying to influence prospective jurors,” the judge said.

There could be some major developments in the Holly Bobo murder case on Wednesday.

Jennifer Thompson, the attorney of suspect Zach Adams, says the judge expects the case to be resolved in just a matter of hours.

According to Thompson, Adams' co-defendant Jason Autry plans to take a plea deal.

Thompson says Judge Creed McGinley has been urging her to make a deal on Adams' behalf. She is now urging McGinley to step aside and put the case on hold.

I think Jason Autry is going to testify against Zach Adams as a requirement of his plea deal; really curious about that plea deal.

There's a pre-trial hearing tomorrow. Adams' attorney is expected to request yet another delay to his trial, which is scheduled to begin April 3^rd. I hope the judge denies the request.

According to his attorney, the state doesn't have any physical evidence connecting Adams to the crimes. She says police were unable to recover any DNA and they're relying only on circumstantial evidence (which is true in many murder cases).

The prosecution says they have witnesses and they have a green Croc shoe belonging to Zachary Adams; that shoe matches a print found in the Bobo carport from which Holly was abducted.

The trial of Zachary Adams has been pushed back, again.

In early March, Judge McGinley pushed the trial from April to July. He said the April date wasn't ideal because it would have intersected with the Easter holiday and the sixth anniversary of Holly's disappearance.

The judge also changed the venue from DeCatur county to Hardin county and decided that he would sequester the jury.

500 jury summonses have been mailed out. Jury selection is expected to begin in April for the July trial.

The Bobo family is disappointed by the delay, but their representative said they want it to be done right and will continue fighting for justice no matter how long it takes.

Yeah, that's especially true when there are multiple defendants accused in the crime and the death penalty is in play (as is the case for Zachary Adams).

It's hard for me to believe it's already been 6 years this month since Holly was abducted from her home and over 2 years since Zachary Adams was indicted. Lots of delays in the trial thus far, but I don't think it will be pushed back again. The long jury screening process is already underway for his July trial.

I haven't seen any details regarding Jason Autry's plea deal; so curious about that. I'm almost certain it requires him to testify against Adams; really interested in hearing his version of events.

THE TRIAL OF ZACHARY ADAMS

Finally.................the trial of Zachary Adams began today. I didn't even recognize the scumbag in the court photo below.



The judge approved a change of venue and jury sequestering last year to ensure as fair a trial as possible in this high-profile emotional case.

Zachary Adams has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, raping and killing Bobo, who was 20 when she disappeared from her home in the rural town of Parsons on April 13, 2011. Her remains were found in woods in September 2014.

His brother Dylan Adams is charged with the same crimes. His trial date has not been confirmed yet.

His buddy Jason Autry is also charged with the same crimes, but is working on a plea deal. The Adams brothers should be very nervous about this; I think Autry is going to testify against them both in order to get the death penalty taken off the table.

Prosecution Opening Statement:
Prosecutor Paul Hagerman told the jury that Adams lived in a 'dark, dark world' of meth and morphine, and had abducted the nursing student from her rural home.

Hagerman said that Adams drugged, raped and shot Bobo before discarding her body and bragging about it to friends.

He promised that a co-conspirator would testify to Adams' role in the sick crime during the course of the trial (that would be Jason Autry, I presume).

Defense Opening Statement:
Adams' defense attorney, Jennifer Thompson, said her client is not guilty. She said in her opening statement that authorities found no hair, fingerprints or DNA belonging to Bobo in a search of Adams' home before he was charged in 2014.

Witnesses:
More than 100 people have been subpoenaed, and will potentially testify during the trial.

Holly Bobo's dad Dana Bobo, her boyfriend Drew Scott, neighbor James Barnes, mother Karen Bobo, and brother Clint Bobo took the witness stand today to describe the day Holly was abducted.

Evidence Expected to Presented

Expert Analysis of gun
Prosecutors said they recovered a gun in May 2017, more than six years after Bobo disappeared. The trial, which was originally scheduled to begin in July, was postponed until September, to give the defense more time to examine the weapon.

Prosecutors are expected to present the gun as the murder weapon, and both sides will likely have forensic and metallurgy experts examine the gun during the trial. TBI investigators said no blood was on the gun when it was recovered, according to court records.

There is a small hole in Bobo’s skull, according to court records. Experts will likely come forward to determine whether the pistol that was recovered is capable of making the hole in Bobo’s skull.

Potential Alibi from Adams’ Ex-Girlfriend
Rebecca Earp has been subpoenaed to testify as a witness for the defense, and she may have an alibi for Adams, according to court records.

Court records show Adams has a long history of assault and drug convictions. Earp previously accused Adams of attacking her and threatening her just months after Bobo's disappearance in 2011.

Testimony of five men given immunity
Five people have been granted either federal or state immunity to testify against Adams.

Victor Dinsmore, Michael Alexander, Jason Kilzer, Shayne Austin, and Jason Wayne Autry were all granted immunity, according to court records filed in Hardin County.

Autry is Adams’ accomplice according to investigators. They’re two of three men charged with murder for their suspected roles in Bobo’s death. Zachary Adams’ brother, Dylan Adams, is the third suspect.

Austin, who was also granted immunity, was a person of interest in the case before he committed suicide in 2015. He gave written testimony to the TBI before his death, and it’s expected to be read aloud in court.

Electronic recordings
There are hours of recorded phone calls, 911 calls, and recorded jail visits, according to court records.

Several of the calls include those made between Adams and witnesses after Bobo’s disappearance. According to court records, cell phone experts will discuss the location of phones at different points of the investigation.

Recorded calls and jail visits between Adams and his brother, Dylan, who’s also charged with Bobo’s murder, may be presented in court, if allowed by the judge.

It was a long long wait, for sure.

Holly's family was reportedly frustrated with the delays in going to trial, but they waited as patiently as possible in hopes prosecutors could build strong enough cases to ensure the defendants get convicted.

I wish LE had been able to gather physical evidence against Zachary Adams and company, I know they tried hard. But, they don't have DNA, fingerprints, or blood evidence against the defendants. They do seem to have a lot of circumstantial evidence and the very damning testimony of co-defendant Jason Autry. Hopefully, that will be enough to solicit guilty verdicts.
