Looks like the other inmates at the prison he's housed in agree with you. The suspect has just been moved to isolation for his own protection; he was being threatened as a result of the publicity surrounding the Madeleine McCann case updates.
I wouldn't shed a tear if the convicted rapist and pedophile died, but really hope that doesn't happen until/unless suspect Christian Brueckner is proven beyond reasonable doubt to be responsible for Madeleine's abduction (and likely death).
Right now, LE doesn't seem to have enough evidence to charge him in the case. He's behind bars on drug charges and for the rape of a 72-year-old woman.
The only evidence against him in the McCann case, as far as I've found in public accounts, is that he was in the same resort area of Portugal and has ties to a couple of vehicles that were seen cruising the area around the time Madeleine was reported missing.
Brueckner's attorney says that Brueckner denies any involvement in the McCann case, and Brueckner himself is refusing to speak with detectives.
