Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

I'm having a fantastic day so at this moment in time I wouldn't even consider getting rid of you. I dreamed about you last night. Hahaha! You were wearing a Penn State sweatshirt.

Does anyone truly believe we would not kill each other in an instant for what they have? Religion is used to keep basic human instinct at bay and remind us that what we do even alone seperates us from all the animals. Humility is sometimes hard on people and without an unseen entity we would be smashing ourselves over the head with the biggest wooden spoon in the kitchen.

I used to believe this but not so much any longer.

I believe people "instinctively" know right from wrong. Sure, children need to be pointed in the right direction or the world will be like "Lord of the Flies" and most all adults need to know there are repercussions for improper behavior but people know what's right and what's wrong.

At one point in time I believe there was no religion of the type we know today. There were sets of beliefs that people tended to share based on faith and these be;liefs were founded on a mixture of observation and superstition. But modern religions are an attempt by a few to define these sets of beliefs and capitalize on them. Jesus said render unto Cearsar that which is Ceasar's. In other words religion couldn't exist outside of government where government itself has usuped the concept of right and wrong in order to capitalize on it.

Religion used to be science and governance was the provision of police and military protection. When the ancient economies failed opportunists moved in and have controlled the people primarily through fear, superstition, and intimidation ever since.

Of course people were largely at the whim of inertia and superstition before this.

The basic problem is that people simply don't want to think for themselves. If their parents are of a certain religion or political party than they are as well. If the car in front of them turns into the wrong lane then so will they. They want to be led around by advisors and anyone willing to tell them what to do. Many people are incapable of thinking for themselves and this is probably a bigger failing than even the inquisition.

I just watched The God Who Wasn't There (w/Sam Harris). The ideas regarding our image of Jesus weren't much different than Zeitgeist or other works that outline the similarities between Jesus and other mythical saviors of the same era. What struck me was the filmmaker's view of the horrible shit we teach children to scare them into our own religion.

Shame on us.
