I wonder how big the fires got out there 400-500 years ago. Nobody could have stopped it or slowed them down.

5000 years ago the valley of fires was formed, you can bet that created a fire like none that has been seen since.

It was the papers headline, if you think it's stupid call them.

The point was that the fire will also burn into new mexico.

yes what you said was dumb because you couldn't see the bigger picture.

reason number 438 why i don't miss florida...it's on fire too as per usual, and they get scorpions, spiders and cockroaches in their houses. or worse.

"palmetto bug" AKA giant mutant cockroach ---->

Orlando Sentinel
As firefighters battle wildfires across the region, homeowners are waging their own wars, fighting roaches, ants and spiders. Blame it all on one thing: worsening drought conditions.

"Everything is on the move," said Wayne Gager of Gager Pest Control in Sanford.

He said he is even getting calls about scorpions.

But the roaches are the main complaint, he said.

"When people start seeing the roaches, that really gets their attention."

The high temperature Tuesday at Orlando International Airport was 97 degrees and high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid- to upper-90s for the rest of the week.

While there were scattered showers around Central Florida this afternoon, the rain was not enough to make an impact on the dry conditions that are sending insects indoors.

The biggest culprit is the American cockroach, also known as the palmetto bug, Gager said.

"They're trying to find water," he said.

Fires also have wildlife on the move, said Joy Hill, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

But whether it is the fires or the dry weather, it is just "a normal part of the ecosystem," Hill said.

"There's no real reason for concern," she said.

She said her agency has been only a slight increase in nuisance calls.

Gerald Perez of Advanced Wildlife Trappers in Orlando said his calls have increased as it gets drier.

Small animals such an opossums and raccoons are finding their way into crawl spaces at homes and businesses.

Firefighters want water just as bad as the animals, but for a different reason.

There are more than 300 active wildfires in the state which have consumed more than 115,500 acres, according to the Division of Forestry.

On Monday, Gov. Rick Scott issued a state of emergency in Florida because of the fires.

Tuesday, he was in Flagler County for a briefing on a wildfire in part of the county that has been burning since May 30 and has now burned an estimated 3,000 acres.

In Volusia County, firefighters are battling a fire that has burned an estimated 500 to 1,000 acres east of Osteen.

Fire units worked overnight establishing lines around the perimeter of the fire.

I hate palmetto bugs. I see at least one a year in the laundry room downstairs. I need to replace the gaskets under the door where the stupid dog ripped them.

How to keep bugs out of your home: Mop with Borax disolved in your mop water. Bugs hate borax/boric acid. Use that Orange Glo wood and furniture polish on the wood surfaces in the home. Bugs hate the citrus oils. I try to avoid chemicals, especially pesticides, but I freaking HATE bugs.

(CNN) -- U.S. Sen. John McCain is blaming illegal immigrants for starting some of the wildfires that have scorched hundreds of thousands of acres in Arizona.

"There is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally," McCain, R-Arizona, said Saturday at a press conference. "The answer to that part of the problem is to get a secure border."

The Arizona senator, however, did not say what the evidence is, prompting a swift rebuke from Latino civil rights advocates.

"It's easier to fan the flames of intolerance, especially in Arizona," said Randy Parraz, a civil rights advocate who ran unsuccessfully against McCain as a Democratic candidate in 2010.

Parraz called McCain's remarks "careless and reckless" but not entirely surprising given the political climate in Arizona. The Latino advocate is co-founder of Citizens for a Better Arizona, a group trying the recall the legislator who authored the state's controversial anti-illegal immigration law.

Parraz said McCain "should know better" than to make such an accusation without presenting any facts.

McCain said that illegal immigrants set such fires either to send signals, keep warm or distract law enforcement agents. But he did not specify which fires allegedly had been started by illegal immigrants, nor did he identify his sources or provide details of the "substantial" evidence he cited.

It this arson scenario possible? Sure. It diverts resources and changes the focus to a new threat.

Is it probable? I'd like to see the "evidence" and then determine probability.

You guys are missing the big picture, if the fire was started by illegals then no prosecution will take place, the feds will pay up to fight the fire and rehabilitate the area ,arizona can get on with business as usual, if the fire was started by citizens of the US, arizona will be pressed to prosecute, sue and attempt to recover a small fraction of the cost to fight the fire, the state will have to pick up the rest of the tab and will suffer from the effects of the fire for a few years.

Personally, I think these are the shovel ready jobs obama was talking about earlier this week.
