So many of the things they put on the grocery store shelves should contain this warning now days. They sell us slaughterhouse drippings as 100% lean beef and fish that contains sodium tripolyphosphate and water in larger quantities than fish. Most things are just corn in one of its myriad forms which will result in mass starvation when the corn crop fails while we'll still be burning corn in our cars causing poor mileage.
...Just had to vent.
This thread is about kids and iodine. Iodine appears in almost no foods except fish and some kids don't get fish since their parents know it really costs twice as muvch as what the package says. Then Morton (almost the same company that blew up the space shuttle) sells uniodized salt right next to their iodized salt. This is no big deal for adults since adults don't need much iodine and we just die if we don't get enough. But kids need huge amounts and some parents just don't know that the kids need iodine. Not getting iodine turns a kid into a moron.
Our schools have failed and uniodized morons aren't the cause but an effect.
The damn manufacturers should be forced to label the crap as not fit for consumption by humans under 15 years of age.
The way things are going it may not matter much longer anyway. Vonnegut's handicapper general is going to be sure we're all equal anyway.
...so it goes.

Our food chain is fucked, you can buy the best cut of beef in your grocers meat dept and still get fucked by what the animal was fed.

Let me give you a quick analogy here Clad:
My Uncle back in 1966 came up with a chemical toilet he pushed it and tried to sell it to contractors, they would not buy them. He became a representative for his district and when in 1972 the Feds were pushing environmental awareness, he put a bug in his fellow legislators ears that it would be a great idea to have chemical toilets on job sites. In fact he even went as far as making it a law that they were needed at all construction sites.
Well at first it started as being needed at state construction sites then it became law that they were needed at ALL construction sites. By 1982 he was a millionaire and selling/renting chemical toilets like they were attached to the lunch truck.
Many years later he sold his business and retited to Fla. His Daughter still runs the company but since then he has been out of politics and could not protect his interests. There are many companies that do them now and that is the end.
He retired in Fla. and died about 6 yrs ago but he lived well.
There are many things that are tied into laws, its a damn shame but it has been that way since the beginning of time. The Egyptians did it the Babylonians did it and the Sleastacks will do it in the future.

I bought a porterhouse at Meijers a while back that was the worst piece of meat I ever ate. It was tough, fatty, tasteless, and leaked water when cooked as though it might have contained sodium tripolyphosphate.
There was some bastard clown on my TV the other week who said that if the consumer demands better quality the farmers will provide it. Horsecrap! I never heard anyone complain there wasn't enough slaughterhouse drippings in their McDonells hamburger or enough water in their fish. I never heard anyone say the maple syrup in Log Cabin just needed all the syrup taken out and replaced by sugar water and flavoring. I never heard anyone say Nabisco 1 Lb packages would be perfect if they were 15.1 OZ at the same price.
They ram this crap down our throats and we have no choice. The FDA, the middlemen, and the stores obviously are all getting a cut. Quality deteriorates and we pay more to buy the chemicals and the equipment to inject it for the sole purpose of being ripped off.
I'd give million to one odds that there isn't a Mcdonalds hamburger hut in the world that has a notice posted that they use pink slime to make their "product".
But people won't even complain.
The FDA should be concerned with the health of the children in this country. When the finanancial health of the producers took precedence to the children and their diet I don't know. Why this changed I don't know. But I do know why kids aren't getting the iodine; the FDA makes the manufacturers list iodine as a separate ingredient on the can if they use iodized salt. Do they simply don't use iodized salt any longer. No body is alergic to iodine. The law should read that they only have to list iodine if they don't use it: "Warning this product does not contain iodine, a necessary nutrient". This warning should also appear on all uniodized salt containers including kosher salt and single serve packages.

Me too. Sea salt has a lot of iodine in it but I buy iodized sea salt anyway.
I got virtually no iodine for 4 years because the salt container was not well labeled and I didn't eat fish.

We have the best government money can buy. If so much money weren't being made when bad things happen to people that could at least in theory be good.

I buy all of my beef from the reservation butcher shop, their cattle are all free range with no additives.
I buy free range eggs, I buy whole milk from the guy down the road, and I make my own butter from the cream from the milk.
I do everything I can to keep my food like it was intended to be.
if you want to see some scary shit, look up your state on how many fish and what type you can eat a year to stay within the gov. tolerance for mercury.

Here's a brand new one;
http://gaia-health.com/gaia-blog/2011-11...-says-wto/
Very soon now all the US honey producers will be put out of business by sugar water imports from China. The stores will take a cut and the first fake honey will be cheaper but as soon as there's no outrage the price for sugar water will go right back up to what honey used to cost.
And there's nothing you can do about it because the highest bidder already has wrirtten the rules.
It's a race to the bottom to see who can feed us our own shit first.

Am I bitch enough to point out the natural meat eaters posting here are not the paragon of humanity? Nah.
Eat more veggies. Meat is gross.
clad, familial retardation (tards reproucing and raising other tards) is the number one cause of preventable retardation in this country. I could get into the whole race/intelligence thing here (I have seen some new studies, middle class blacks are dumber than poor white trash) and how much federal money "closing the gap" wastes, but I won't. Stupid people raise stupid kids. It is a fact. I don't think sprinkling salt on the little ones would help.

I almost hurled making the turkey this year. I didn't enjoy cooking it AT ALL. OK, I do like the sandwiches, but not enough to do that nastiness again. I have decided I can maybe deal with just a turkey breast, but never the whole bundle of guts and disgust again.
You would NOT believe how big the effen turkey neck was that came out of the bird. You could see where they chopped the head off of it. It haunted me for a few days.
I eat McDonald's fries and hashbrowns (greasy as hell, have to dab them with about 4 napkins) and pancakes (they have good little hotcakes, NEVER get the sausage) and drink McDonald's coffee. That's about it (I do eat a Big Mac about once a year, Big Mac Attack!)
Unless meat is VERY lean (like those thin-sliced pork chops with very little fat and no blood) I can't deal with it. Except bacon. Love the hell out of some bacon.
People who buy the hambuger in the roll gross me the eff out. I could NEVER do that.

The neck is one of my favorite parts of a turkey, I don't eat that crappy white meat just the dark meat.
I bake around 4 turkeys a year, they are still cheap and last a few days till they end up as turkey noodle soup on the last day.
I make my own egg noodles by the way, those store bought noodles are made for people in the south.

Cracker eats spaetzle. I also eat No Yolks wide egg noodles and curled fideo. I very rarely make spaghetti or other pasta dishes, just a couple times a year or if I have shrimp.
Black people eat turkey necks. I throw that shit out, straight to the outside bin, it doesn't even make it to the inside trash can. Fucking gross.
The dog gets the turkey carcass to chew on for a few hours after I cut the white sandwich meat from it. He also gets the legs. If you ever come to my house for the holidays, you will have to fight the Chihuahua for your dinner. He is a mean little fucker.

Well that soccer ball sized goiter sticking out of your neck should teach you to start reading labels more carefully.

i have always looked for iodized label on morton salt. it's pretty clear and easy to see.
now we have designer salt.
kosher salt has no iodine from what i read.
i use sea salt a lot, but only some have iodine added.
supposedly fresh veggies and of course seafood have plenty of iodine.
most modern people who have some basic nutrition knowledge and access to good foods don't get goiters and scurvy and rickets anymore.
oh hell, my doctor prescribed a potassium Rx for me last week, so evidently you have to eat TONS of stuff. phooey. how much broccoli and bananas can you eat?
then there's iron. what does that mean, eat liver? NOPE.

You're a heathen.
Dogs shouldn't have cook bird bones of any kind.
They can deal with them raw but not cooked they become little splinters that will fuck up their insides.
