A man opened fire outside a Texas courthouse, killing one person and injuring three others.
Police officials say Bartholomew Granger, 41, was on trial to face charges that he sexually assaulted his mentally challenged daughter.
Granger arrived at Jefferson County Courthouse with his family, according to police reports, and suddenly began shooting just outside the courthouse entrance.
Granger fled the scene in a pickup truck and abandoned it outside of a building two blocks from the Beaumont courthouse, where he was restrained by building employees until police arrived.

Two suspects sought in the brutal murder of a businessman found bound and gagged in his apartment have been returned to New York after they were arrested in Florida this weekend.
Cops caught up with Edwin Faulkner, 30, and Juan Carlos Martinez-Herrera, 26, on Thursday, two weeks after the murder of John Laubach.

WI taxpayers get to support all these kids.
JS online
As he ran through a convicted pimp's long record of misbehavior last week, a federal judge in Milwaukee got to the fact Sean Patrick owed more than $146,000 in support for 12 children he had by 10 women, who now won't have a father in their lives.
U.S. District Judge Rudoph T. Randa looked up at Patrick with disgust and a bit of curiosity.
"How do you satisfy 10 women?" he asked. "I can't even satisfy my wife."
That brought titters from a collection of Patrick's supporters in the courtroom.
Randa quickly clarified that it takes constant personal attention to make relationships work.
"That's another thing that causes crime: the destruction of the family," he said. "All the sociologists will tell you that."
Randa gave Patrick 30 years, consecutive to 20 years he's serving in state prison for a homicide.
Serial siring appears to be as popular as flashy jewelry with Milwaukee pimps.
Derrick Avery, aka Pimp Snooky, has 15 kids with seven women, and Todd "King Tut" Carter got blasted at his sentencing for leaving behind 16 children with several different mothers.
Avery is the highest profile in a string of sex-trafficking cases prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Milwaukee. Avery, who was featured in documentaries such as "Pimps Up, Hos Down," initially claimed he was not a pimp, just an actor playing one. He is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court this month.
Randa's sentencing comments have earned him a rebuke from the federal appeals court in the past.

"Mass. State Police are so HOT! it's those jackboots. "
LC - you should see the Rhode Island state troopers (holy hotness). Similar uniforms but the colors are dark grey with red trim and they wear the jackboots too. I couldn't find a picture which shows head to toe - sorry.

We were talking about Charles Manson at work the other day. This person was saying he was psychotic and unwell and that's why he had to be put away. She said that 'gaze' is evidence that he is 'not there'.
Here's what I think, not by the books but my own personal opinion is that he is evil, and I believe that evil is a choice. Lot's of sick people we deal with do not do all this shit.
Also, I think he wanted to be a popstar, he was spurned and he got even.

you know, florida is a gold mine of crimes against the vulnerable elderly. it's horrible and rampant. this bimbo did what so many unskilled people do for work down there, "caregivers" for elderly that they rob, neglect, bully and abuse. families may be up north and have no clue. the elder often does not check references/records. it's a racket down there, and i have seen many "home-health-agencies" busted. anyone can get an occupational license and do this BS.

It was a great gig while it lasted: A paid job where you can have your own beer-fest.
Sandra Ruth Wendolowski was hired to care for an 82-year-old Port Charlotte man in his home, according to a news release from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
But it looks like the only thing she had her eye on was the beer.
After the man allegedly told the 56-year-old caregiver to stop drinking beer all the time and clean the house, she responded by knocking over his book shelf to try to grab the phone so he wouldn’t dial 911. She then grabbed his waist and punched him near his eye causing a one-inch cut, the report states
That's when he managed to call 911.
Responding deputies reported the home was, “in very poor condition. There were several hundred empty beer cans throughout the home, on the floor, counters, shelves, and in the bedrooms. There was cat urine on the floor and open syringes on the counters and tables,” the release stated.
Deputies found Wendolowski nearby on a bench. When she spotted the deputy approaching her she started running. The deputy caught her but she kept trying to break free.
She was finally cuffed and and charged with Battery on a Person 65 or Older and Resisting an Officer.
This is Wendolowski’s third booking on the same charge against an elderly person. The other arrests occurred in 2004 and 2008.

oh wow, she really is the worst of the worst. You guys need strict regulation and monitoring of community nursing services. There is a gap there where people are being abused on all levels. If it were investigated it could become a national issue. I usually don't comment on other countries 'in house' local issues but I am coming from a perspective of having worked in the community. There is a strong infrastructure in Australia to assist in-home caring.
Even here in Australia, people can be abusive to the elderly in assisted care or nursing home care. It is rare, and strictly monitored. Aged care is certainly a huge issue due to the fact that we are an ageing society, there are many more cases of dementia and alzheimers within our growing population. I am glad this happened in the US, hopefully she will be given a long sentence. If it happened here, she probably would be let off with a warning.

mmmmm chinese food!
boston herald
With his mother dead in a blood-soaked bedroom and his father sitting on the floor next to her — apparently having feasted on his wife’s flesh — a man who’d moved his elderly parents from China to Shrewsbury mere months ago found himself helpless in the face of a horrific discovery that has shaken and shocked even veteran law enforcement officials.
“It’s a very disturbing scene,” Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said of the carnage that unfolded in a tidy condo complex where authorities say Jiemieng Liu, 79, murdered his wife, Yuee Zhou, 73, then ate part of her forearm and chanted a haunting mantra — “This is not your mother” — when their adult son arrived.
“I haven’t seen this in Worcester County,” Early said of the apparent cannibalism. “None of the police officers that were working the scene have seen this type of homicide before.”
Liu, clad in a white gown with a matching cap covering his head, appeared frail and dazed during his arraignment in Westboro District Court, where authorities charged him with murder, mayhem, and assault and battery in connection with the gruesome scene their son found Thursday afternoon. Liu’s attorney, Michael Hussey, had argued against even bringing him into the courtroom, saying there was no point because his client does not understand what is happening.
“I think there are serious questions regarding ... if he’ll ever be competent to stand trial,” Hussey told the Herald. “I think he’s confused about where he is, why he’s there and what happened yesterday. It clearly seems to me that he suffers from dementia. He is completely disoriented and mentally confused.”
Liu was sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and is due back in court on May 14.
The son moved Liu and Zhou to the United States from Hunan province last fall; Hussey said the son wanted to care for the couple in their elder years, and that Zhou had been worried about her husband’s apparent dementia. Liu apparently did not recognize his own son when being picked up at the airport.
“And he really hasn’t recognized him since,” Hussey said.
No one answered the door at an address listed for the son.
Authorities say paramedics found Zhou face-down in a pool of blood, with flesh stripped from her forearm and fingers detached from her left hand. She was pronounced dead about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Authorities provided no details about how exactly she died, saying in court only that she had suffered trauma. Liu, who required a Mandarin interpreter during the investigation and his arraignment, told police he’d acted in self-defense, a prosecutor said during the arraignment.

Woman Falsely ID'd In Kenner Shoplifting, Child Abandonment
Mother Falsely Identified Woman In Incident, Police Say
April 10, 2012
KENNER, La. -- Police said a woman was falsely identified as the suspect who shoplifted, used a stun gun on a security guard and left an infant at the Esplanade Mall on Saturday.
Kenner police spokesman said the mother of the abandoned child, Stephanie Johnson, identified Brittany London, 21, as the person who was responsible. However, hours after London's name circulated the Internet, she arrived in tears at Kenner police headquarters to clear her name.
"I have never been in trouble with the law. I have never went to jail in my life, and I was scared," London said. "I know everybody is trashing me on Facebook and Twitter."
Police said Johnson knew London from Facebook. London said she doesn't know the mother of the abandoned child.
"She says that she's friends with a friend who's friends with me or one of her friends is friends with me. I don't know how she got to my page," London said. "I'm definitely deleting my Facebook page. I don't need that no more."
In the Saturday incident, police said when a mall security guard approached the woman, she pulled out a stun gun and shot him.
Police said the woman fled, pushing the stroller with the baby inside. She was chased to the parking lot, where officers said she got into a gold Honda Accord. The woman left the baby and fled the scene, police said.
The African-American baby, who investigators said was estimated to be between 6 months to 8 months old, was placed in protective custody until a relative could be located.
Johnson came forward, claiming to be the child's mother. However, police said Johnson wasn't forthcoming in identifying the person who left her child behind and alone. As of Monday afternoon, after Johnson recanted London as the suspect, she said it was her sister-in-law, Charbaney Smith, who left her baby behind after the incident, police said.
"OCS is concerned not only where the child is going to go, but what kind of responsible parent is going to say, 'Oh, it wasn't me. Someone else had my child.' But then not know a whole lot about the person that had their child?" McInnis said.
Police said the woman would have only faced a misdemeanor shoplifting charge but now will face felony charges, including child endangerment and aggravated battery.
Johnson now faces a charge of obstruction of justice, falsely identifying London as the suspect.
"I was shocked," London said. "I'm just clearing my name. It wasn't me. They got the identity messed up and my nerves is something bad. I don't know the mother of the child. I don't know none of them."
Johnson met with London briefly inside the Kenner Police Department.
"Basically, they told me she told a whole lie. She mixed up her story," London said. "She wanted to apologize. I really didn't accept it."
London's father, Henry Carter Sr., said he is furious with the situation and his anger is turned toward the investigation by police.
"We were in Amite -- Amite, Louisiana," he said. "We got 100 witnesses saying we was in Amite. ... This is sloppy police work. They done damaged my daughter. She'll be damaged the rest of her life. ... It's hard to accept. We live by the law, but this is wrong."
His son, Henry Carter Jr., agreed, saying, "The Kenner Police Department should have waited and investigated and pressed down on this lady who claimed it was Brittany, before they put Brittany's name out there."
London and her family agree that an apology from the mother and correcting the story isn't enough. They said the damage has been done and they are going to pursue legal action.
Police said criminals sometimes lie, and they stand by their detective work.
"This is a case of the criminal, the mother of this infant, identifying a person; identifying not only by name, but identifying her photograph in a lineup to remove suspicion from herself," said Kenner police Chief Steve Caraway.
Police continue to look for Smith. They said they believe the mother might have been trying to protect her.
"That's what it seems like," Caraway said. "Again, the sister-in-law (Smith) has active warrants on her for theft, simple battery."
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Kenner Police Department at 504-712-2222 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

not a criminal matter. just horrific, devastating, gruesome and sad as hell. that little boy should have been nowhere near that wood chipper! so awful. that poor family. :(
the accident was so terrible that grief counselors were called to the scene.
April 10, 2012
SALEM CONN.
A 6-year-old died Tuesday morning when he was pulled into a wood chipper while his father was clearing out trees and brush from a Brookside Drive property, police said.
When the father turned to gather brush, Jeffrey Bourgeois tried to help by picking up a branch and putting it into the wood chipper, state police said. When he did, the boy became entangled and was pulled into the machine.
The accident, which was witnessed by two of the boy's siblings, happened about 8:45 a.m., said Lt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman.
Jeffrey and two older siblings were with their father, Scott Bourgeois, who was chopping trees and grinding wood in the yard of 24 Brookside Drive. The children's schools are closed for vacation this week.
Based on a preliminary review of the scene, Vance said the incident appears to be "a horrible, tragic accident."
Scott Bourgeois owns C&S Tree Removal LLC, according to state records. The family is well known in town, First Selectman Kevin Lyden said.
"Our hearts and prayers go out to them," said Lyden.

A horrific, tragic "accident" that was entirely preventable. A six year old child should not have been anywhere in the vacinity of an industrial size woodchipper, especially when it was running. There are reports every year of children drowning in manure lagoons, being run-over by tractors, caught in grain augers or killed by chainsaws.
Don't mean to belabor the point, but this shit makes my blood boil. As farmers, we took extra precautions to keep our kids safe. To my mind this "accident" is negligence to the nth degree.
I hope his siblings get counseling and are able to someday get past watching their brother being chewed apart and spit out of this machine like garbage.
