morning sun

Tribal Police and rescue workers searched a waste water treatment pond visible from Carnel Chamberlain’s home on Tomah Road on Sunday while a crowd of spectators gathered to watch. Marcella Hadden, public relations manager from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, said the ponds were being searched to exhaust all locations the boy, who has been missing since Thursday, might be.
Down the road, search efforts in a grid between Leaton and Shepherd roads were called off around 5:30 p.m. Search and rescue experts called the search because the area had been combed thoroughly. Hadden said if search efforts needing volunteers continue on Monday, volunteers would be called and information would be posted on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe’s website and on their Facebook page.
Hadden said over 100 volunteers joined the search on Sunday.
Rumors swirled Sunday evening that Carnel had been found, but Hadden said that is not true and search efforts continue.
Michigan State Police cadaver dogs joined the investigation into the disappearance of a 4-year-old Saginaw Chippewa Indian boy early Sunday morning.

Nothing new on MSM, just a rehash of the cadaver dogs and search efforts.

This one really hits home to me. While I feel for all the missing/murdered children in your forum, this one is really tough.

Carnell looks like my son did at that age, right down to the dark hair and green eyes. The pic of Carnell with the shaved head-he looks so proud of himself. When my son was 4 we were stationed in Panama. We took him to the base barber to get a "high and tight" haircut. After the haircut we took a picture of him, and he had the same proud upright stance. I remember my son telling me, "I'm not a baby anymore, I have a haircut like all the men."

Goddamn this is breaking my heart. I know Carnell is probably dead, but in this case I am hoping for a miracle.

Associated Press, Published: June 25

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The mother of a 4-year-old boy reported missing from a mid-Michigan Indian reservation said Monday she is holding out hope that he’ll be found safe as additional searches were planned.

Jaimee Chamberlain, 21, told The Associated Press on Monday that her son, Carnel Chamberlain, was being cared for by her boyfriend at her home near Mount Pleasant when the child disappeared. GOT A CLUE???

She said when she got home from work that night, her boyfriend — who regularly spent time with her and the child — told her Carnel wasn’t there.

“I ran inside and looked around. I didn’t know what to do,” said Chamberlain, who went to a neighbor’s home to see if she could find Carnel and then called police.

After staying home during the early portion of the search at the request of police, Chamberlain said she has been joining those looking for her son.

“I just want my son home and I don’t want people to stop looking,” she said.

Authorities planned to regroup Monday after search teams, the FBI, police dogs and more than 100 volunteers scoured the area Sunday, said Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe spokesman Frank Cloutier. Crews on Sunday also searched ponds at a wastewater treatment plant near the child’s home, but nothing significant was found, he said.

The tribe has said the boy’s disappearance was “suspicious.” The tribe also has said the mother’s boyfriend initially had not been cooperating with authorities, but was described as “minimally cooperative” Sunday.

In earlier reports about the search, the missing boy’s first name was spelled Carnell or Carnal, based on information released by the tribe.

The FBI is assisting tribal police on this case, and directed requests for information about the search to tribal police, the FBI in Detroit said Monday. The Isabella County sheriff’s department also is assisting in the search, but said it couldn’t release information.

MOUNT PLEASANT (WWJ) – A Mid Michigan mother is still holding out hope that her 4-year-old son, missing from an American Indian reservation, will be found safe and sound.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 on Monday, 21-year-old Jaimee Chamberlain said her son, Carnel Chamberlain, was being cared for by her boyfriend at her home when he disappeared last Thursday.

When she got home from work, she said her boyfriend wasn’t frantically searching. So, she did.

“And it sunk in and I was like, ‘Where is he at?’ I ended up like searching everywhere … I went in the bathrooms, I went in all the bedrooms, I looked in all the closets, I looked in all my cabinets, I looked in my refrigerator and after that I went outside and looked in the back yard,” said Chamberlain.

Chamberlain said she now believes her boyfriend may be involved. ”I don’t know, it just feels like he’s hiding something because why wouldn’t you just … take the polygraph test to just help us out with the whole investigation that’s going on?”

shit.

Adults in the life of missing 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain – including his mother’s boyfriend, who has been termed a “person of interest” in his disappearance – have had several legal skirmishes and his biological father is imprisoned for felonious assault.
Carnel was born in January 2008 to a teenage mother with substance abuse problems and Michigan officials placed him in foster care and attempted to remove parental custody.
His mother’s boyfriend, Anthony Michael Bennett, 20, whom police have termed a “person of interest” in Carnel’s disappearance, was released unsatisfactorily from state probation a year ago.
Bennett, whom police initially said was uncooperative and have since described as having “calmed down” a bit, was under state probation for fleeing a traffic stop while drinking and driving near the Bradley Trailer Park two years ago.
Officials said Bennett, the last person to see Carnel, is still not cooperating with their efforts to find him.
Meanwhile Carnel’s mother, Jaimee Leona Louise Chamberlain, 21, at one point told a probation official to take Carnel out of her custody because she did not want him, according to an abuse-neglect petition filed in Isabella County Trial Court in February 2008.
Trial Judge William Ervin transferred the case to Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Court in April 2008 after it was determined that Carnel’s parents are both Native American.
Records in Tribal Court are not public information.
Tribal Spokesman Frank Cloutier said Monday that Jaimee Chamberlain was successful in regaining custody of Carnel in the Tribal system and completed what was required to get her child back, adding that her progress says something about her and her love for the child.

Search warrant executed in case of missing Mount Pleasant 4-year-old.
MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police have executed a search warrant to gather information in the case of Carnel Chamberlain, a 4-year-old boy who has been missing since Thursday night.

A warrant seeking evidence was executed on a 20-year-old man, the boyfriend of the missing boy's mother, who had been identified by police as a person of interest, Tribal spokesman Frank Cloutier said.

The man was not in custody as of Monday afternoon, Cloutier said. He could not give additional information about the warrant, but said details would be released if there are any developments in the case.

Police believe Chamberlain's boyfriend was the last person to see the child before he went missing. They said initially the man was not being cooperative as police began the investigation.

Bambi Scarlott and her husband, Stephen, who live next door, said they saw people in white jumpsuits going inside the home and noticed that police took an ATV four-wheeler and some other items from outside the home.
The search for the missing child began Thursday evening soon after Jaimee Chamberlain, 21, returned from work to her home at 7340 E. Tomah to find that her son was not there. Chamberlain told police that her boyfriend was watching the 4-year-old and that neither of them were home when she arrived.

Chamberlain began calling her son's name and she and her boyfriend went door to door asking for help in searching for the boy. Neighbors searched their yards and nearby with flashlights Thursday night, said Bambi Scarlott.

Over the next few days, volunteers showed up to search a 10-mile radius around the home where the boy was last seen.

More than 15 law enforcement agencies have joined the search, Cloutier said, bringing police dogs and helicopters with infrared cameras. Ottawa County officials brought SONAR equipment to search waste-water ponds at a treatment nearby the home.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations is assisting tribal police with the investigation.

Many volunteers have come to help as well, Cloutier said, noting that more than 175 people were there Saturday morning, ready to search for hours.

Police ask anyone with information in the case to call 989-775-4700.

Took them long enough to get that search warrant. wtf, a child goes missing and the "boyfriend" is all nonchalant about it? Crazy.

Are women EVER going to learn?!? Don't leave your kids with a man who is not the child's father! I read somewhere that men [subconsciously] view their girlfriend's child as an equal rival - as if the child were another adult male competing for and "winning" the woman. These men can harm the child just as easily as they'd harm an adult man. We read about it here all the time.

I cannot even begin to understand why parents leave their children with strangers in an uncontrolled setting. I know this girl is young but she has to know we live among monsters. This is so sad.

Apparently the boyfriend has now lawyered up and is refusing to talk with authorities!
What on earth did he do to this sweet boy?

The last man known to have see 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain before he was reported missing Thursday has lawyered-up and won't talk to authorities, according to local news reports.

It's hard to understand the mother's thought process in these cases. Are they so lonely or under so much "societal" pressure to have a man, any man that they completely overlook any warning signs? Was the boyfriend even working or was he sponging off of Jaimee-living with her and letting her pay the bills for his keep?

Day 5

Chamberlain says she looked inside her home and called police. "My son called him 'stepdad,' if Carnel needed something, he was helping, he was helping me with him, he told me he loved my son," said Chamberlain. he's a lying sack of shit

Chamberlain also told Keller that as of Monday, her boyfriend is not cooperating with police. Chamberlain said her boyfriend has found a lawyer and he's not saying a word. "He's the one [who's] lost my kid, you figure he'd be the main one trying to help everybody," said Chamberlain. It about breaks your heart to read her saying [boyfriend] "lost" her kid.

With the infamous cases of Caley Anthony, Lisa Irwin, Isabel Celis, Ayla Reynolds and Haley Dunn, the boyfriend probably feels as long as Carnell's body isn't found he'll not be arrested, charged or convicted in this "suspicious disappearance".

i want to know why she had 2 polys. had to be a problem with first one. however, she was at work.
but who knows when he vanished.

MLive
MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — The mother of 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain, who has been missing since Thursday, said that she has taken two polygraph tests and passed both.

Jaimee Chamberlain, 21, reported her son missing at 10:12 p.m. Thursday. He is registered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

As of Tuesday, The Michigan state Police had not deemed the case appropriate for an Amber Alert, according to the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police.

Tribal police, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and several other agencies, have been searching dense wooded areas, tribal lagoons and ponds near the boy's home on reservation land.

Jaimee Chamberlain left her son in the care of her boyfriend, 20-year-old Anthony Bennett, while she worked Thursday.

She said that Bennett has watched her son about five times since the end of May. The two have been dating for about seven months, she said on Wednesday.

Police said that Jaimee Chamberlain was given a polygraph on June 22, but did not release the results.

She said on Wednesday that she had passed the test and a second one that was given. Bennett denied requests to take a polygraph test, police said.

Authorities questioned Bennett on Friday. Police said on Saturday that he was not cooperating in the investigation. They said he has since calmed down and is being "minimally cooperative."

A search warrant was issued on Monday for Bennett, according to tribal spokesperson Frank Cloutier.

Pictures of Carnel Chamberlain are posted throughout the Isabella Federal Reservation.
The search is being conducted as a criminal investigation into the boy's disappearance.

Police said Bennett is a "person of interest" in the case.

More than 15 police agencies from Isabella County, Midland County and other surrounding areas, have participated in the nearly week-long search.

The FBI is assisting the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police. Authorities have used SONAR equipment and cadaver dogs to search ponds and heavily wooded areas near the boy's home.

Carnel Chamberlain stands three foot tall and weighs 37 pounds. He has short dark hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark colored Angry Birds T-shirt and dark blue or green pants with a green trim.

Anyone who has seen the boy is asked to call the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police at 989-775-4700.
