This day in History

8/02/1934: Hitler becomes Fuhrer, and millions of future internet arguments are resolved before they start.

Hitlers nephew petitioned F.D.R. to go over and fight against his uncle. He was not allowed to go.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

And a couple of decades later on this day in 1958:

The U.S. nuclear submarine Nautilus accomplishes the first undersea voyage to the geographic North Pole. The world's first nuclear submarine, the Nautilus dived at Point Barrow, Alaska, and traveled nearly 1,000 miles under the Arctic ice cap to reach the top of the world. It then steamed on to Iceland, pioneering a new and shorter route from the Pacific to the Atlantic and Europe.

On this day, 2011, I decided to stop using milk in my coffee and switched instead to cream.

8/3/1492

In 1492,
Columbus sailed the oceans blue
He had three ships to join the fun
loaded down with men and guns

He wanted a route to West Indies ASAP,
but couldn't read a fucking map
It was a scurvy, stinky band
that finally reached Bahamas land

And when they met some native dudes
His fortunes were made and theirs were screwed.
He called 'em injuns and that name stuck
Columbus: what a stupid fuck.

You know what? Upon further reflection, it was actually 10th I made that transition from milk to cream.

I'll update this thread next Friday.

I guess nobody remembered that today in 1895 Neva Morris, Iowa's oldest person, was born.

Assholes.

I'm surprised nobody beat me to this one:

On this day in 1974 - Guitarist Jeff Baxter quits Steely Dan and joins Doobie Brothers

That musta been a bittersweet day for stoner music fans... Torn.

Steely Dan stomps the DB's IMO. Not really my kind of music, but if it was there it is.

TRIVIA:
Where did Steely Dan get his band name (and yes, it is the entire band's name, not his)?
