The question concerned a comment made regarding LE's belief that the perps were no longer in the area. The sheriff's news release did not address that issue either way. But thanks for your input.

Okay, I'm game. No longer in the area is a bit ambiguous don't you THINK? Nowhere did the Sgt say out of state, out of the friggin country, or out of anywhere but the "area". And who was the Sgt addressing? The Springfield Township Trustees. So shall we take the Sgt's words in context or out? You decide. I decided two or three days ago. Area = Straub's neighborhood.

I think the audience Schiavone was addressing as well as the tone of the discussion is extremely important to how the Sgt's comments are taken. It certainly wasn't a formal statement by LE, was contradicted by today's formal statement and is questionable given the Sgt's choice of wording with "instigated."

In my opinion, all of the above make me question Schiavone's statement about drug charges against Lisa.

January Murders In Township Were Not Random Crimes, Sheriff’s Office Saysg
BY KELLY J. KACZALA — MIRROR REPORTER
Lucas County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Schiavone said at a Springfield Township trustee meeting that the murders of a young couple in January were not random, but planned.
Schiavone made the comments as part of his monthly crime report to township trustees at a meeting on February 22.
He was referring to Johnny Clarke, 21, and his girlfriend, Lisa Straub, 20, who were killed on January 31 by unknown assailants at Straub’s parents’ home on Longacre Lane, where both had lived.
Both victims were found with duct tape and plastic bags over their heads in the kitchen dining area by Clarke’s father, who kicked down the door of the house after Clarke’s mother had called 911 to express fears for her son’s safety.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are working on the crime and have interviewed more than 100 people, according to Schiavone.
He said that both victims had prior records that included drug-related charges.
Schiavone said that the murders were not the result of a robbery gone wrong.
“Like I tell everybody, it wasn’t a robbery – not a robbery that’s ever going to occur again. So nobody needs to be worried of that,” he said, adding that he doubted the suspects are still in the area.
Following his comments on the double homicide, Schiavone continued his report on crime statistics for the month of February. Felony warrants filed were down to 23, misdemeanor warrants were down to 40, juvenile warrants fell to 36, and domestic violence remained the same at 36.
Domestic violence is sometimes higher during periods of extremely cold weather, he said.
Other statistics Schiavone noted for February – including 18 DWIs, four seatbelt citations, 98 speeding tickets, 12 driving under suspension citations and 36 miscellaneous tickets – were also down.
“But any time you get extreme bad weather like we’ve been getting, you’re not going to get too many speeders,” he said.
Schiavone told trustees he was retiring and would no longer be on patrol and giving trustees their monthly reports.
“It’s been a long 30 years. I really enjoyed working with all of you,” he said. “At times, it’s been a challenge, but most of the time it’s been enjoyable.
“I am still going to be on the auxiliary, so my face is still going to be around, and I’ve volunteered to do some of the special things.”
He will still be a hostage negotiator until another officer is trained for the job, he said.
Lucas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Luettke will be Schiavone’s replacement to give trustees their monthly report, he said.
Luettke is an arms specialist who provides training for SWAT teams and for road officers, according to Schiavone.
“He will answer your questions, no matter what it takes. And if you call him, he doesn’t care if you call him on his cell phone,” he said to trustees. “If he has to come in on his own time, he’ll come in on his own time. I knew he’d be the best for you. I said before I left that I’d make sure you guys would be covered in that aspect.”
Trustee Bob Bethel said trustees appreciated Schiavone’s service.
“I think you have really helped with the communication between the sheriff’s office and trustees during the time you were put in this capacity here,” he said.

I don't recall seeing this in the previously published reports of his remarks at that meeting, and I don't recall any drug charges against Lisa being mentioned as being found here on Mock.

Is my recollection correct? I thought she had had one DUI and that was it.

Also noted is that, at the same meeting, he announced his retirement from the Sheriff's staff after 30 years.

It's down the page, after the first article. The first article has a color photo included of a group of people. Below that article is the one quoting Schiavone.

Kitty, do you know whether or not that is true?

Not that it would diminish the outrage I feel towards this spokesman and his remarks of slurring-the-victims.

I know of no drug related charges in Lisa's past. I think he is trying to make himself look good on his way out. Sort of like we haven't solved this crime because these kids were just trouble and they got in over their heads. It was a professional hit so that's why we haven't solved it.

I only saw traffic violations for Lisa.

The two guys they got in Kansas were found on a Army base.In order to get on a U.S. military base they would have had to show their I.D.s.I'm sure the M.P.s at the gate ran their names and they came up wanted.So the marshals picked them up.I'm sure no LE from Toledo went all the way there just for these two genius's.Just a normal id check did those two in.Probably not smart enough to realize someone on base might actually want to know who they were.

I hadn't thought about whether the perps have killed before. It's possible they haven't. There are people 'out there' that would kill someone for $5,000.. (I just grabbed that amt off the top of my head) Someone desperate for money, hmmm now you have me thinking about it!

Ok like 15 or so years ago Maytees husband was caught up in a big drug bust. Maytee snitched on the main man and so did the truck driver.They found the truck driver with his tounge cut off. I think its really crazy if the rumors are true about lisa tounge. I know for a fact that Maytees Best friend gets all types of pills(pain pills) and Maytee and Jonny sell them for her. Jonny hangs around with a bunch of pill pooping loosers. Jonny likes to brag about what he had all the time as welll . Im stuck in between I think it could be a "hit" because of maytee and john sr's past , But I also think it could of been a set up from one of his jealous friends.

And as far as PAY goes, it is BEYOND ME how you think they "are paid well for what they do." Most people in LE that I know are struggling to get by with the little that they do make.

So It's 6 a.m and ive been in this FUCKED up sleep pattern where i stay up till 6 am then stay up till 5.am the following night with out, sleeping i go to bed every OTHER day and it sucks

I think prision, but I am not a 100% sure.I know everyone she has set up alot of people in her past tho.

The killers took the vent covers off. It seems like they were looking for something in them.
