walking while black - Trayvon Martin
The "belief" by him that his life was in mortal danger is the real question, and in reality is the determining factor if a person uses deadly force or not.

Being in fear for your life is the yard stick.

You have probably figured out that that level of fear is different for everyone, it will be very tough to prove where that line is for Z by the prosecution.

If Z says I was in fear for my life the prosecution will have to prove that he wasn't, tough job as far as I'm concerned.

I am sure that is what would have happened if George did not carry a weapon.
I don't want to go off topic and get in to a gun debate (I'm not a gun opponent necessarily) but, I'm curious. Assuming T was beating on Z, do you think Z was actually in mortal danger? That a fight between them would have resulted in Z's death absent the use of lethal force?

IMO ONLY George looks like a little guy compared to Martin, for someone who has never been in a fight with a larger man. He could have felt like he was in a fight for his life.
Do I think that he is right to use the force, No not entirely, but under the FL law he HAS a fight to use this force.
In a lot of my comments I am trying to open up both sides. Did Martin DESERVE to die, absolutely not!
But the points I have been trying to make within this forum is that Martin was NOT an innocent 10 year old kid! The fact that this entire case was made and brought to the NATIONS attention under the assumption he was a YOUNG CHILD and this was ALL racially motivated.
Do I think he SHOULD have used lethal force, I don’t know, under the law he HAS the right. DID he have a fight for his life, HE COULD HAVE FELT LIKE he did. The cry for help on the 911 tape was obviously one of them. In an assumption, you would think it was the one who was being assaulted. I find it hard to believe that Martin would have been the one crying for help, he did look like he could hold his own.
Sorry if I didn’t answer your question with a simple answer.

Nah, you did. From a legal perspective, unless the prosecution has something up its sleeve, I think George may well walk (and it might not even make it to trial). From a moral perspective, I don't think that would be justice. I don't see this as 2nd degree murder at this stage (at all) but I find fault with George's actions that night. I wish I knew exactly what happened in those few minutes. Smiley_emoticons_slash

Certainly Trayvon was misrepresented initially but there's nothing to indicate that at that time, he was doing anything more than walking to a residence. Just because he was bigger than portrayed and had some history didn't make what he was doing, at that moment, any less innocent.

Hi all, long time lurker here Smiley_emoticons_smile.

The coroner's report has Trayvon listed as 5ft 11in & 158lbs. I've seen reports of him being as big as 6-3 250lbs. That's a pretty big difference.

I hope this hasn't been posted already. I found it at:

I'm pretty new at this though, for all I know it's fake!

I have to agree. There are reports of T being huge in comparison to Z and others where he's described as a bean pole.

Anybody know the facts?

You know what? It doesn't matter what Trayvon did prior to this event. He could have been an innocent kid or he could be a thug. Z didn't know who he was. Z was walking home from the store minding his own business. There was no way for Z to know he was a trouble maker or smoked pot. You have to look at the events from the time Z made the call to 911 and was told to stand down and let the police handle it. If he had done this, both would be alive and the police could have dealt with T accordingly. You can add in T's past when looking back and trying to figure out if he was indeed the agressor. But the fact remains, Z knew nothing about this kid other than he was walking through the neighborhood with a hoodie talking on his phone.

That not NOT correct he was told "sir, you don't need to do that" BY A DISPATCHER. Not someone of any authority. BIG DIFFERENCE. He was never told to "stand down".

In an effort to better educate students and their parents about race relations and social injustice, a D.C. elementary school has declared Friday “Trayvon Martin Day.”

Teachers at Malcolm X Elementary in Southeast are using the unfolding case and the story surrounding Martin as part of their "Let's Keep Our Children Safe" seminar.

Malcolm X Elementary Principal J. Harrison Coleman says that she hopes the lesson will help reduce the needless violence and bullying in the community.

"The children at Malcolm X know the name Trayvon Martin," Coleman said. "They know the incident. They know because of what they see in the news and what they experience every day."

Coleman said that every adult who attended the seminar would receive an Arizona Iced Tea and each student would get a bag of Skittles.

these fucking morons are educators?? 36

let's have a zimmerman day too and pass out 9mm. Guns

The staff here hopes this day makes the student at Malcolm X understand someone always cares. The school principal calling on more parents to volunteer and get involved.

"We want to send a message to stop the bullying and bring about a happy spirit," Coleman said. "A sense of bonding within the community and within the school."

Sanford police would not immediately comment on why Zimmerman was at the station three days later, saying they cannot talk about the investigation.

Did you even know there is such a thing?

Some black folks are calling this crime scene photo "racist" because it is watermelon flavor. It's the actual can. Should police lie and say it was Green Tea flavor?
