See what I mean.

Death insures "No Parole."

FFS!

It's Death ensures "No Parole."

Guarantees . . . not protects against.

Sorry.

The laws and mindset is different in Ireland. I think my family was just too devastated, it was a gruesome random attack that happened in front of my uncle's family in the street. I wish I hadn't brought it up now, it makes me sick.

Was this murdering thug successful with his "insanity" assertion?

If so, as a mental health "professional", how does this make you feel?

Yes he was. I am not happy with it. I don't work in forensics, working with murderers its a cop out. My aunty said to me that this guy was jealous of my uncle (my mothers younger brother) who was a successful businessman. As for the death penalty, that is really a call for my aunty and the impact on my cousins. When I was in Ireland and we were talking quietly about the whole experience, it was weird, it was like his presence was there whilst we were talking before the fire. My aunty was young, the family was young (uncle 36years old) and he was a good man full of life and caring. It destroyed my grandmother who was a matriarch who kept the family together, after she died shortly after, we all bickered and split. So when a gruesome act like this happens its not just the act its all the other stuff that happens. I also don't know if killing him - that means his family would suffer. I visited his grave, his young son, died 10 years later at 19 in a car accident and they are buried together. I guess our family was just dealing with overwhelming grief to even contemplate punishment. My father also committed suicide a year later in 1987.

I am a nurse, I am taught to heal and be part of a healing process, it goes against the grain to kill someone, it doesn't mean that the death penalty is wrong. I am not sure. When I see children brutally anally raped and killed yes I guess to be real they should suffer, but we are the ones doing it.

Why do you call me a "professional" like that? I work really hard for my stripes. I am now a senior in my area, I am not on a higher level like a nurse unit manager, but I am fully qualified like a midwife.

I think that people use the insanity plea as a cop out, for sure. But what can I do about it.

^ I'm sorry that your family was the victim of a violent crime, aussie -- it takes a huge toll and can leave a lot of scars, that's for sure.

Wondering what happened to ChicagoBorn -- he was growing on me.

It was horrible gruesome crime. My grandmother died too young and it left her a broken woman. I felt I 'overshared' as Crash would say.

I think my point is that it takes a horrible human being, or true evil to commit such atrocities, to inflict the same crime on them means stepping into that realm. Not saying I am against the death penalty. However, we don't have the death penalty in Australia so it is not part of the political dialogue here.

Well, it fit the context of the conversation and IMO it's helpful to hear from people who have first-hand experience with the subject at hand.

So, you get a pass on perceived TMI from me, in this case.

HOWEVER, I'm not going all soft or anything. Still giving you some shit about your mate Joel!!

Well, I liked your update on Joel, he should get asked the hard questions, his position does come with responsibility, I think he answered it without offending that community. He is entitled to his own beliefs, the most important thing is he said, 'everyone is welcome' and in a crowd of 45000 I would say that would be true.

I guess I'll never understand how someone in a pastor position can say that he thinks homosexuality is a sin and be against homosexuals having equal rights (but only when he's asked -- don't wanna rock the boat or anything), and then welcome homosexuals to give him their support and donations without it coming across to others that it's all about the money to him.

Obviously, I'm not a fan and don't find him authentic.

But, yeah, if he's got homosexuals and people who staunchly support homosexual rights who are following/hailing him despite his claims that they are breaking the rules of Christianity, then that's their choice -- whether I get it or not.

I missed your response in the My Mate Joel thread earlier, aussie, and took this discussion thataway.

Think it was mentioned in an earlier post, that husband of woman who was stoned to death, had killed his first wife (he says it was accident) so he could marry the woman who was stoned (to death). News source insisted that this was not part of their religion, but a cultural thing and who could provide the largest dowry; the cousin who family wanted her to marry had more rubles or whatever their money is called in Pakistan...
Sorry about your Uncle, Aussie....

Aussiefriend - Upon my return I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that my heart felt for you and your family during my travels, having read the tragedies they have endured. I extend my sympathies and continued prayer for peace and healing for you and your family. I did appreciate the thoughts and insight from your standpoint. At times I find myself on my soapbox claiming to be defending the victims; when obviously I may not have as clear a grasp on the view from that side of the fence.

Peace my friend.

Awwwwe - HOTD, I'm touched that you missed me.

I was waiting for iiiittt!! For you blow-hards to think that you scared me off by all of the barking and growling. NOT A CHANCE!!

A corporate job is rather overrated; though it puts food on the table for all of the gratefuls and ungratefuls alike. The endorsement on the back of that first check is their (corporate's) view that you have just signed up for every "duties as assigned" that must be accomplished. Not to mention that being 'salary' is corporate code for ... "we get to work your ass into the ground; head first of course - so you can continue to service the better of the higher ups - Oh! and by the way it's free... part of the 'benefit' package." But, it pays the bills.

Also had a relative pass this last month; so a great deal of commotion flanking from the side that was a bit unexpected. Family.... Sheez! Love and dysfunction at its best is it not.

This weekend I am off to tally with about 8k archery folks (vendors, buyers, blow-hards) release some steam flying some quivers. In a controlled environment of course. I'm still pondering why it is socially and politically acceptable for me to fire off my bow in public and not my Walther PPK??? Are they not as equally dangerous? Hmmmmmp... Hahahaha! I shall wander about and see what all has been happening here. Hopefully I can drop a crumb or two and stir up some fun. Not that it is in my nature to be all mush mush - but I have missed all of the mistreatment I have been adorned with here. Glad to be back.

BlueTiki - I kinda missed the notification that my team totally blew tonight. .. [Image: 9.gif] damn it!!!

What BlueTiki??? Nothing... Nada... Zip... DooDa... Diddly Squat... Zilch... Cat Got Your Tongue... Words failing you... Snarky Reply box empty... Running low on 'witty retorts"... ??? I was crushed and hurt that I have had no mention from you in regards to my favored Black Hawks not making it to the Stanley Cup Finals. WHICH!! By the way and for the record, that winning goal for LA was a fluke and completely unearned. I can't imagine you would miss an opportunity to sprinkle a tad bit of salt in those fresh wounds.

Pffft -- you've been treated with kid gloves so far. And you can wait all you want; there will be no blowing here -- hard nor gentle-like. NOT A CHANCE!! (Unless nrkerr comes back around -- that would greatly increase the odds.)

I hear ya. On the other hand, I thought working for myself would give me for freedom than a corporate job. There is more down-time for sure, but it's on call 247 -- I sometimes miss the steady paycheck and predictable hours working in the corp world. Always a trade-off, I guess.

Have a great time and tried to stay on the straight and narrow; you get the point (= stay outta jail, if possible, I don't think they let you log on to Mock from there).

Cheers

You use the Urban Dictionary don't you.

pssst! If you have been inclined to only handle it through gloves, you are absolutely hanging out in the wrong neighborhood. Oh... And if you can practice sucking in lieu of blowing... Your neighborhood would definitely improve.

I'd trade ya, in a red hot second. Actually would already probably be on my own; however, current health conditions require health insurance. Plus family at home use the benefits as well. I would not miss all of the ass kissing!! No matter what, it's human nature to always admire the grass over yonder as we bitch about our own.

Had an excellent time. No bail needed, no casualty, and no completely drunk Bastard trying to weild a bow; so all in all. .. It was good.

Cheers
