Janice Poppo DiBello couldn’t remember the father who abandoned her at age 2.
The New Jersey woman was stunned Thursday to discover her absentee dad was the homeless man victimized last weekend by a flesh-eating Florida madman who gnawed away most of his features.
“I’m really upset because I haven’t met my father,” the 44-year-old woman told the Daily News while walking her family dog near their Morris County home.
“Since I was 2 years old, him and my mom got divorced and there was no — like how normal divorces are, where you see your father,” Poppo DiBello continued from behind a pair of sunglasses. “Nobody ever heard anything from him, so I’ve never met him.
“I didn’t know if he was alive or dead.”
After The News found Poppo DiBello, she called her mother to confirm the details about the victim — and her parent did just that.
“It was a complete shock, because like I said, I’ve never had a relationship with my biological father,” the IT analyst said. “I have never heard from him. I have no idea what happened to him.”
Poppo dropped out of college in late 1966, two years before daughter Janice was born. He disappeared from her life for good two years later after a divorce that left a still-bitter taste in his ex-wife’s mouth.
“I have nothing to say,” said Theresa Chesler, now living in the Catskills. “We were divorced, probably in 1970. And nobody’s heard from him since then.”
Wow imagine never knowing your father and then finding this out, must be hard to deal with.

here comes the camera-loving, media-whore, greedy, ambulance chasing gloria...for what?
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – High-powered Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred is now connected to Miami’s infamous “Causeway Cannibal” case.
Allred has confirmed to CBS4 News that she is representing one of the girlfriends of Rudy Eugene, the man shot and killed by police after brutally attacking and eating the face of a homeless man over Memorial Day weekend.
It’s not clear why Allred is representing the girlfriend. Allred told CBS4 News she has no plans at the moment to release a statement, hold a press conference or visit the girlfriend in Miami.

One of the girlfriends?
Why would one or any of them need representing, are they going to try and sue the police for shooting him dead? Did they not see what he did to that man, drugs or not? some people are money hungry fuckwits!

There is always the possibility she fears legal repercussions. Man could have gotten the drugs from her. More likely though she sees an opportunity to cash in on peripheral noteriety. ""I Dated a Zombie: next on Jerry Springer".

Gloria Allred has no shame. Any self respecting attorney wouldn't allow themselves to be viewed as an ambulance chaser. Whenever I see her representing someone any credibility I may have thought someone had is lost once her name is attached to them.

Whether you have the stomach to read the details or not, you surely have heard about the face-eating cannibal who was shot and killed by police over the Memorial Day weekend in Miami.
Now, former heavyweight boxing champ Melton Bowen not only says he once faced down the same man, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, and had to knock him out when Eugene tried to fight him, but also claims Eugene wasn’t a bad guy.
“I got him before he got me,” says Bowen, 43, who says the two began arguing over music before Eugene ripped off his shirt like he was going to attack him. “He did threaten me though — ‘Oh I’m gonna kill your (expletive)’, you know.”
Bowen, who had a career record of 35-9 and captured the World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental heavyweight title in 1993, says no charges were filed in the 2007 incident and the two settled their differences and got along quite well.
“He wasn’t violent, he was all right,” Bowen says. “But after you get to know him. If you don’t know him, something different. But if you got to know him, he was pretty cool. He was all right.”
What he means to say is he thought he was all right. As we now know, Eugene was not all right.

Allred said she is helping Miss Bryant handle the international media exposure the cannibalism case has received
she wouldn't have any media exposure if she didn't seek mics and cameras! nobody gives a shit about her.

Face-eater's girlfriend to speak out against cannibalism

MIAMI—
— A 27-year-old Miramar woman who described herself as the girlfriend of the man killed by police as he gnawed off the face of a homeless man stepped forward Wednesday to speak out against what her counselor called a growing scourge: cannibalism.
Yovonka Bryant's counselor? Los Angeles celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred.
"We are hopeful that ... Yovonka can help the public understand the dire consequences of cannibalism for its victims."
The emergence of Bryant into what she and Allred hope will be a spotlight on the issue of one human eating another comes less than two weeks after Eugene was shot to death after police found him on the MacArthur Causeway, naked and chewing the face of a helpless man.
But that Eugene was not the man she came to know after they began dating four months ago, said Bryant. Rather, he was a fun-loving, Bible-reading sports fan who hoped to start a car-detailing business and never showed any propensity for violence.
"We spoke about marriage and I thought that he would be a good father to my children," Bryant said. "There were no warning signs."
Allred, whose clients include a long list of stars and Hollywood wannabes, said Bryant contacted her because "this is a high-profile case and she wanted to truth to come out about Rudy Eugene."
"Jokes are being made about this issue on late-night television," said Allred, "… but cannibalism is a serious issue and is very dangerous to the health and well-being of both the cannibal and the victim.
"It is very important that the social taboo and stigma that have long been attached to this subject continues and that society condemns cannibalism, rather that trivializing it or glamorizing it."
Allred said that Bryant "is not a suspect in this matter," and that she and Eugene had never discussed cannibalism. Neither, Bryant added, did she and Eugene ever discuss voodoo.
"Had she had any indication that Mr. Eugene could or would engage in an act of cannibalism she never would have allowed him around her three children," said Allred.
Allred said she was not planning to sue anyone on Bryant's behalf. Bryant did not take questions.
But Allred did answer a few queries from reporters, many of whom wondered aloud why Bryant needed such high-profile counsel, or any lawyer at all, and why the news conference was held.
"This is a high-profile case, and she wants the truth to come out about Rudy Eugene," said Allred. "She suffered a loss of someone she truly loved. I make no apologies for being here to support her."
In news interviews last week, another Broward County resident, who has remained anonymous, told reporters she had a five-year, off-and-on relationship with Eugene during which he often smoked marijuana but was not violent.
Bryant, who works in the office of a public accountant, began dating Eugene, 31, in March. She said they read the Bible and the Quran together, regularly tuned in to a televised Christian ministry, and spent time eating out and watching movies.
She said her children, ages 11, 8 and 3, liked Eugene, calling him "Uncle Beard."
Bryant said she never saw Eugene drink and only saw him use drugs once — when he smoked marijuana.
"I felt safe with Rudy," she said. "In his presence, his smile alone just uplifted my spirit … I truly did not have a care in the world when I was with him."
Bryant echoed the anonymous girlfriend's supposition that Eugene was on drugs May 26 when he attacked Ronald Poppo on the MacArthur Causeway.
"I believe that he would never have knowingly and intentionally inflicted the harm that he did and that most likely there is a drug that he was given without his knowledge that caused him to do what he did," she said in the statement.
Ronald Poppo, 65, remains hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital after police say Eugene gouged out one of his eyes and destroyed most of his face.

I don't think the world needs Gloria Allred and the cannibal's lover to tell us that cannibalism is taboo and dangerous. Ya think, Gloria?
Does this Bryant woman expect to be charged as some kind of accessory? If not, I'm not sure why Allred is making a point of telling the public that her client never discussed voodoo or cannibalism with the suspect. Unless Ms. Bryant hopes to do the talk show circuit (highly possible). Stupid. Both women should zip it, imo. Bryant has children, FFS. Thanks, mom, for making sure the whole world knows that you were fucking a cannibal and thought he'd make us a fine daddy.

brilliant piece in today's Miami Herald. ol' gloria is finally getting the ridicule she deserves!

Finally, someone — someone right here in Miami — had the courage to take a stand against the great scourge of our time.
Oh... not that scourge. Not child obesity or one-percenters or sexually transmitted diseases or radical Islam or Citizens United or greedy bankers or Burmese pythons or Greek tax evaders or Iranian nukes or unmanned drones or union busters or feral pigs or Facebook IPOs or destination casinos or Boston Celtics or illicit voters or even Donald Trump.
No. Gloria Allred came to town Wednesday to warn us — those of us who might have been wavering in our resolve — that “cannibalism is a serious issue and is very dangerous to the health and the well-being of the cannibal and the victim.”
Not necessarily in that order.
The ubiquitous Allred organized a press conference on behalf of Yovonka Bryant “to help her have a voice.” Bryant, a slender, striking 27-year-old Miramar woman, stood next to Allred and told how over the last four months she had been the girlfriend of Rudy Eugene, the man who police shot dead on the MacArthur Causeway May 26. That attack had been of such inexplicable brutality that the case has since been inundated in international publicity. Some of us cynics assumed that the astounding media coverage explained the sudden appearance in Miami by Allred, who seems to hover around notorious criminal cases like a moth to Klieg lights.
Allred stood in a Sofitel Hotel ballroom before a battery of cameras, ostensibly to assure the world that Bryant should not be judged by her association with Rudy Eugene. “She had no warning whatsoever that Mr. Eugene would have ever engaged in cannibalism,” Allred said, delivering a rebuttal to a premise that had never occurred to anyone.
“Had she had any indication that Mr. Eugene could or would engage in an act of cannibalism she would never have allowed him around her three children,” Allred said.
She described how Bryant had been contacted by police investigators and had provided “all the information she knew that was relevant to this inquiry.” Allred then added another bewildering non sequitur. “She was not and is not a suspect in this matter.”
None of the reporters in the room, or anywhere, had entertained a thought to the contrary. We all sat wondering why it was necessary to call a press conference to rebut non-existent accusations. And why Bryant needed the very famous celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred to fly in from Los Angeles to say what didn’t need to be said.
Here’s why: “In addition, Yovonka and I are very concerned about the issue of cannibalism and the number of cases that are being reported in other states and countries, such as Alabama, Canada, Maryland, Japan and Sweden,” Allred said.
Okay. Okay. It’s not like any of us media types there were naïve about Gloria Allred, who’s been sopping up unwarranted media coverage for years, often as the lawyer for women associated with the very bad behavior of very famous men. Cynical or not, there we were on Wednesday, packing the ball room in tacit acknowledgement of our symbiotic relationship with the likes of Allred.
Besides, she and Yovonka Bryant had a larger message to deliver. “It is very important that the social taboo and stigma that have long been attached to this subject continues and that society condemns cannibalism, rather than trivializing it or glamorizing it.”
Those of us there who had been guilty of glamorizing cannibalism hung our heads in shame.
The only morsel of news that spilled out of the press conference was Bryant’s insistence that, contrary to a police record of eight arrests, including a threat against his own mother, and the unhappy memories of his ex-wife, Rudy Eugene was a model boyfriend, who avoided drugs (except for one brief indulgence in marijuana), was religious and loved playing with her three kids. They called him “Uncle Beard.” Another girlfriend has also been quoted in the media since Eugene was killed. It was important, Allred said, for us to know the other girlfriend was not this girlfriend.
Allred did not allow Bryant to veer from her prepared written statement. Bryant read, “Rudy and I never discussed cannibalism or voodoo.”
Which was all we really needed to know.

Allred and the cannibal's girlfriend (of 4 months), Ms. Bryant, have begun the talk show circuit. Big surprise. They both look very pleased in this interview with Dr. Drew. I think Gloria changed her media springboard away from the "cannibalism is dangerous!" message after catching some heat. The new message that Ms. Bryant can share with the world appears to be that women have to be careful about who they date. Ms. Bryant missed the marked in delivering that insightful message on Dr. Drew. She yammered on about how she still loves warm and affectionate Rudy, but feels bad for the "homeless guy" whose face he ate. That's entertainment...

The man who mauled off a homeless man's face over Memorial Day weekend apparently had no human flesh in his stomach, a report shows.
Law-enforcement sources told the Miami Herald an autopsy revealed 31-year-old Rudy Eugene had undigested pills in his stomach but no human flesh. The pills have not yet been identified.
Eugene was fatally shot by an officer after he refused to stop chewing on Ronald Poppo's face along the MacArthur Causeway.
Though officials have speculated bath salts may have sparked Eugene's wild behavior, it remains unknown what prompted the attack.
Officials told the Herald a preliminary review found marijuana in Eugene's system. Those who knew Eugene said he was known to smoke marijuana but the drug is not known to cause violent spurts.
A source also told the newspaper Eugene did not have his two front teeth but that chunks of flesh were found between his teeth. The source also said pieces of flesh were found on the floor of the scene.
Officials said the autopsy report would not be released to the public until the investigation into the shooting concludes - a process that could take more than a year.
Poppo, meanwhile, continues in critical condition in the hospital.
