The Taliban is less foreign to them than we are. That's the bottom line. We should either have negotiated a peace with them -- and an orderly transfer of power -- or stayed there in perpetuity. A 300,000 man army with state-of-the-art equipment is worth squat if it doesn't have the will to fight. Expecting that they would hold the line in the face of fearless, battle-hardened warriors, is shockingly naive, and leaves me thinking that our own military is pretty damn worthless.
