I'll say this, his demeanor impresses me. They kept grilling him and Goff... Wentz was the natural speaker of the two. Goff looked like the typical nervous kid caught up in the bright lights and hype of NFL-hollywood. Wentz was cool, calm, collected and answered questions like a natural conversationalist. Deion Sanders was like, "You were uptight yesterday." Wentz is all, "No, not really." I mean who wouldn't just agree with Deion Sanders just because you're starstruck talking to Deion Sanders? It's Primetime! You just disagreed with Primetime! Wentz don't care, he isn't afraid to speak to people and he sounded pretty smart when he did.

I really don't see why people keep saying the Eagles gave up so much. The Redskins gave up their next two firsts and a current 2nd to move up from 6th overall to 2nd overall to take RG3. The Eagles gave up a first next year, a 2nd the following year, and a current 3rd and 4th to move up from 8th to 2nd and take Wentz. Much less. Plus they get a conditional 4/5th pick back next year. Maybe you see RG3 as worth more to move up? I don't think his career proves that. The Eagles gave up a lot less. Next years first is the only pick that really hurts. You could trade Bradford after this season for a 2018 2nd (Which I think they probably do.)

Plus, the 3rd rd pick wasn't even our pick. It's Detroit's pick for our 4th last year. Which Chip did to recoup some ammunition because he traded our 2nd this year for Bradford. Heck, the Rams gave up two firsts, two seconds, and two thirds for spot 1, a 4th, and a 6th.
I fully expect to see that come to fruition. At the very least a 3rd as long as Bradford stays healthy. The more I read about this move up to snag Wentz the more I like it. 6'5", 237 and a faster 40 time than Goff. What's not to like?
I think that kid who got the Twitter drama will come out ok. The inside information guys are saying "somebody" has been trying to shop those bong videos for a few months now, and the screen cap just shows some poor kid trying to get his mommy's light bill paid so she can keep the electricity going. His old college might take a hit in the long run, but this guy will get tons of sympathy. Dude went at 13. That isn't even much of a dip. And he went out and took the heat like a man. I might even like him better now.

Plus, who doesn' t love a pothead?

PS did I nail that Paxton Lynch to Denver call or what? That one surprised the he'll out of me, I was just hopeful wishing lol

I'm quite pleased with the Broncos taking Lynch. Now Sammy will shut the fuck up about wanting to be traded. Nobody wants to go to the Browns, or the Jets.

You're wrong about "not even much of a dip" tho. Qualitatively, sure, it's no big deal that you dropped from a top ten pick to 13th overall. Bit of an ego hit, but you're still a first rounder right?

Unfortunately, quantitatively, the kid could have gone as early as 3rd overall, and definitely by 6th overall where the Ravens selected another OT. Those picks will sign contracts worth 21-26.5M dollars. Miami took him at 13, where he'll make $12.8M over 4 years. So that social media stuff cost him roughly 8-14M bucks.

I know it's still a lot of money to make, but if you went in for a job interview with the only company in your industry, and then some relative walked in during your interview wearing a clown suit and threw a pie in your face, and then by the time you usher them out the door, the company is only willing to pay you half of what you expected to make? I'd be killing a fucking clown.

Yeah but he'll garner a ton of sympathy, the stepfather comes off looking like an asshole if it is him that did it, and recent history tells us the NFL has a short memory of you produce. That kid will be ok.

And I'm pleased as hell about Lynch especially if he shows the upside some say he has. Makes Elway look even more like a genius than ever. And takes the pressure off Denver at qb while leaving room for an underpriced third choice like Josh McCown or one of the other veterans soon to be available.
I don't think he came out of it looking very good. Not enough that you have teams worried you have Josh Gordon Syndrome... then you have NCAA rule violation scandal as well? He just kept saying "I'm blessed, I'm excited, I wouldn't say that, I'd have to say yes"... I don't think he even knew what question he was answering. Sure made him look dishonest to me, something to hide.

If it were me, I'd come out and say, "Yeah, it was unfortunate that someone hacked my account. I'm furious about it, but there's nothing I can do after the draft. I'm happy to have the chance to play for the Dolphins and I want to focus on moving forward."

At least admit your real feelings. The kid didn't even admit he was mad. You know he's mad, I know he's mad, everyone knows he's mad, but he can't own up to that. This is after you get exposed as a rule breaker. It doubles up the distrust for me. I know these kids get coached to not say anything wrong and focus on excitement for the future... but that shit don't work when you just had the biggest draft scandal of the night. If you stick to the script, you look bad.

As an added bonus, it kept the Cowboys from drafting him. They tried to trade back into the first to draft him.
Hope he shaves that douchey beard though, what IS that?

My buddy Glenn says Ezekiel Elliott is definitely soft and likes it from behind.

Gaydar?

BTW, I saw you pick up that German kid. Whatta nice story. I love all the human interest stuff behind some of these guys.

Roger Goodell.

What I would look at if I were a team considering that guy would be whether this severe lack of judgement (being a highly ranked player with a promising career video taping himself doing that) would continue to play out as he got older...ala Manziel. I doubt any team is naive enough to think they wont have a multitude of potential draft picks that have smoked a little weed during college, but to be stupid enough to film it, would raise a lot of red flags for me.

We'll see.

Feels like a wasted pick to me, but, not a ton of impact players available once you hit the late rounds.

Do you know of any stories where a late round pick turned out to be a star player? I know there are stories about guys who are picked early and turn out to be duds.

Your best friend Tommy was a 6th round pick.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (7th rounder), Robert Mathis (5th round), Bo Jackson (7th), Harold Carmichael (7), Rodney Harrison (5), Cortland Finnegan (7), Al Harris (6), Terrell Davis (6), Shannon Sharpe (7), Vontaze Burfict (7), Antonio Brown (6), Jason Kelce (6), Alfred Morris (6).

Production trumps everything. Unfortunately we live in an era where everyone has an instant video camera, so it doesn't necessarily mean a dude was stupid and filmed himself it just means somebody did, and probably with an eye toward making some bank down the road. Jameis Winston got caught out yelling "fuck her right in the pussy" in a college lunch room, didn't affect his standing at all in the long run. And Cam Newton was and is sketchy as fuck with the stolen laptops and payoffs to dad and whatnot, but his ass just played in the superbowl. And people were practically anointing him the return of Jesus. Manziel's crime was being cocky and stupid AND shitty on the field. The one unforgivable sin.

Meanwhile, Goodell better watch his own backside, people have reached a tipping point with this Brady thing and he's alienated a lot of the owners who used to be his support. He may find himself irrelevant to the NFL soon.

I'd agree with you in 95% of cases. Chris Carter had a consuming coke habit, got cut from Philly, woke up to his problems and went on to have a productive career. Ricky Williams had to spend 3 years out of football to wake up to his problems, came back to become a solid fullback. The difference between them and Manziel is that Johnny isn't realizing his problems. He's continuing to let his off-field issues consume him.

Sometimes production is overshadowed by character. AFC Wild-Card game last year. Bengals leading Steelers 16-15, time ticking down. Burfict (selected in the 7th round, character concerns) gets an illegal hit to the head on 4th down. Adam "Pacman" Jones (first round selection that bounced around teams to Canada for a year because of legal trouble/shootings) gets a second penalty in the ensuing drama. Steelers get 30 yards from penalties and kick the game winning field goal. Burfict gets suspended 3 games for repeated targeting. Jones catches a 10k fine.

Point is, those guys are both productive players that teams avoid for character reasons. The Bengals didn't and they were both key players for their playoff run... and they lost their 97th playoff game in a row because of character. Neither of them has changed despite having all the reason to. Manziel is more like them. Even if Manziel was doing well, he'd lose the hardest games because he doesn't put in the preparation time.
Yeah but those guys are the exception, not the rule. For the most part, on-the-field is what people care about and they'll overlook a hell of a lot in that regard, if the performance between the uprights is good enough. For every guy like Greg Hardy who gets run, there's a Ray Lewis who finishes his career with a flourish.
For the Eagles fans on here... This was great:
