I heard something completely different. It was said that Chip was called into Mr. Lurie's office and the vibe was such that Chip knew it was the end. There was no offer made to stay as HC with no GM power, there was no offer made for anything whatsoever, it was the end of the line. What is highlighted is what I heard from the horse's mouth, Jeff Lurie. You can find that around the 3:35 mark.
