I didn't think Organized Team Activities were optional.
Some are some aren't.

Oh, and OTAs are optional for every player on every team.

Then I guess it's good that AP decided to come back and go to voluntary OTA's.

I know every team calls them voluntary but I believe the players know they better show up or else.

Off this topic but...I get slightly annoyed with players who hold out for more money on a contract they were glad to sign at one time.

The Philly media gets Coach Kelly for a press conference and all they want to do is talk about Evan. No questions about OTA's, nothing about mini camp, WHAT ABOUT EVAN! Goddamn. They are a friggin' embarrassment.

Obviously Chipper disagrees with you. hah

One of the Patriots missed his flight to OTA's due to weather related conditions and he got benched. I think "voluntary" is some kinda NFL myth.
I was just asking a buddy of mine about OTA's.

While the wording may suggest voluntary, it's unwritten that just about everybody should be there (except an established star).

I know my guys have been there & working since April. If a player doesn't want to show, fuck 'em, there are plenty of guys who would love the opportunity to be in his shoes. Sometimes I think players forget that it's a privilege to play in the NFL.
Yep, I think Cutz is hung up on the fact that you can't be fined for missing OTA's. Doesn't mean you won't ride the pine or be looking for a contract when eveyone else is in OTA's.
I think I'm hung up on the fact that you don't cut Pro Bowlers flippantly. I think I'm hung up on the fact that the last Pro Bowler Chip cut outright signed with a division rival and gashed our team for 126 yards in a game that ended our playoff hopes last year. Watch Evan sign with the giants. I'm hung up on Chip gaining a rep for cutting stars outright, hurting the likelihood of trades in the future.

But most of all, I'm hung up on starting a player on the oline who was benched last year for Andrew Gardner.

Johnny Manziel told a reporter today that he is officially retiring his trademarked money sign. It's dead, he said. This change is part of a brand new, quieter, less trouble making Manziel. Those are his words. He also said his rookie year was a disaster. He ain't kiddin'. Whenever I think of him I recall him being plowed into by another player and he dropped like a rock. He was floored, it was so funny. I wouldn't say funny if he'd been badly hurt.

This is an interesting read... but since the fix is in it probably won't matter.

Why Roger Goodell might be in tough spot on Tom Brady suspension

The NFL paid millions for a fundamentally flawed report by lawyer Ted Wells that made Brady and the Patriots out to be slam-dunk guilty, based on more than 100 pages of mathematical analysis of ball pressurization . . . that turns out to be erroneous. The AEI’s report totally rejects the finding that the footballs used by the Patriots in the AFC championship game had a significant drop in air pressure compared with those used by the Colts. But the truly damning sentence is this one, buried in its erudite phrasings and equations: “The Wells report’s statistical analysis cannot be replicated by performing the analysis as described in the report,” the AEI concludes.

Basically, the math didn’t add up. It’s a standard principle in science: If you can’t replicate a set of results, then there is a problem with it. A flaw or a fraud is at work. Either you made a mistake, or you made it up.

When the AEI analysts looked more closely at how such a mistake could have been made, what they found “astonished” them, says the report’s co-author Stan Veuger. The Wells report “relies on an unorthodox statistical procedure at odds with the methodology the report describes.” Translation: The Wells report said it would use one equation but then used a different (and weird) equation to arrive at its numbers.

“It was really clumsy,” Veuger says. “It’s the kind of mistake you’d see in freshman statistics class.”

Our numbers in the running game were better last year without him on the field. With the depth we have at RB this year, it's pretty clear chipper is focused on the running game. Let it go bro. Just let it go. Save it for the season.

Marcus Mariota still has not signed a contract with the Titans. Is this unusual?

It's not the norm but it's not unheard of.

I was talking with a friend earlier about this and he told me that Eli refused to sign with the team that drafted him. That's wild. I didn't know they could decline signing.
Hells yeah, Eli got drafted by the Chargers and was all, 'fuck that, I ain't playing in San Diego where it's nice weather all year!'. So he ended up in NY via trade, and Rivers went to SD instead with some draft picks.

Even rookies can hold out, but you've got to be one of the top picks to have it work out I would think...
If you're drafted and you don't sign with the team that drafted you, you can sit out the year and go back into the draft. Eli's papa told him not to go to SD, so they told them not to draft him. The Chargers did anyway to force someone to trade for him, but I think they knew he wouldn't play for them. They were a scrub franchise back then.

There are some conspiracy theorists out there claiming Mariota hasn't signed yet so that Chip can trade the Titans Bradford for him, but I wouldn't put too much stock in it yet. I'd be surprised.

I'm not buying that.

Watching this makes me happy & I laugh so hard. I've seen it several times now, I know what's coming and I laugh anyway.
