And crash is only one of them. Spiders, box jellyfish, stonefish - which can live on the beach for like a day, sharks, crocs, and Car's least favorite... snakes.

Hey, you left out Aussie! hah

A reason for celebration! Definitely a plus in making our country truly progressive and ensuring equal rights for all citizens...This will not be a popular decision with everyone so hang on to your hat.
I was at this party once, and everyone was gay except me. It was so boring. There is nothing worse than drinking at a party and wanting to crack onto someone and there is no one there. It was dead boring.

It was a close vote, 5 - 4, but what a historical one. Gay Pride weekend is a zoo here anyway. Given today's Supreme Court decision, I think it's gonna be even more insane trying to get around this Gay Pride weekend. The parties in the streets have been going down all day here already.

Anyway, it's interesting reading the Supreme Court Justices' opinions.

Justice Anthony Kennedy was the leading Justice voice in favor of equal marriage rights for all. Here's what he wrote.

Justice Clarence Thomas's dissenting opinion is just bizarre, especially coming from a black man married to a white woman IMO. He doesn't believe equal marriage rights have anything to do with dignity. Here's what he wrote.

Nice. Supreme Court judge says "just because something is the right thing, doesn't mean the gov't is responsible for the right thing."

Does this mean he's volunteering to be enslaved again?
I think Thomas was trying to sell the position that individuals are responsible for their own dignity, regardless of their rights, in order to justify his dissenting opinion.

I think his position is wrong, and his examples were terrible.

And, I doubt that he would have made that dignity argument if he'd been on the 1967 Supreme Court and was ruling on whether interracial couples should have the right to marry.
Hair & Cutz:

I wouldn't expect creepo to agree on this...I have never respected this man since "oh gosh why can't I think of her name" pointed the finger at him for sexual harassment. He lied under oath IMO. He should not sit on the Supreme Court. That lady had guts to do what she did way back when....he's an ole' coot and wouldn't recognize justice if it was shoved down his throat.....O.K. I feel better now......
Saying that people are responsible for their own dignity is great, true, and irrelevant. You're a black man on the Supreme Court saying "Slaves still had dignity." Yep, they did. And you personally benefited tremendously from the end of slavery... because it was the right thing. Gay people not having the right to marry doesn't take away their dignity, but they'll benefit from having that right. If you think it's fair to deny them that right because they'll still have dignity, then I guess that whole Civil Rights movement wasn't worth all the hooplah. But who knows, maybe he'd still be a Supreme Court Justice if he was born a slave. Right?
Yeah, I don't disagree with Thomas' position/assertion that people are responsible for their own dignity.

But, the position/assertion that people can't be denied certain dignities by others is unfortunately proven false by reality, over and over, every day.

I thought that Justice Roberts' dissenting opinion was also strange and filled with off-base comparisons.

Quote:JUSTICE ROBERTS WROTE:...the Court invalidates the marriage laws of more than half the States and orders the transformation of a social institution that has formed the basis of human society for millennia, for the Kalahari Bushmen and the Han Chinese, the Carthaginians and the Aztecs. Just who do we think we are?

Well, Mr. Roberts, I'll tell you who I know we're not; we're not Bushmen, we don't reside in China, and we're not living under Carthaginian or Aztec rule.
I wish the Pope would have supported gay marriage, instead of global warming, as a moral issue.

He needs to taste the rainbow.

Republicans who want to be POTUS be like...pissed!

Mike Huckabee - 'The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do – redefine marriage. I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch. We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat.

Bobby Jindal - 'The Supreme Court is completely out of control, making laws on their own, and has become a public opinion poll instead of a judicial body. If we want to save some money, let’s just get rid of the court.

Rick Santorum - 'The Supreme Court just launched an unprecedented attack on the religious liberty and the traditional family.

Scott Walker - 'I believe this Supreme Court decision is a grave mistake. Five unelected judges have taken it upon themselves to redefine the institution of marriage, an institution that the author of this decision acknowledges "has been with us for millennia".

He's slowly getting there, he has now come out saying "divorce" (which was also taboo) is acceptable under certain circumstances. (Rome wasn't built in a day)
I don't think its the moral issue on gay marriage I think its the monetary issue and the future consequences that are the problem. Morally I believe that gays can do whatever they want, its a free country. Insurance, social security, wills, anything married couples can do now will increase by the 2% that is gay. The media makes it seem like everyone is gay but its a small amount of the population.
The media reports I've seen don't make it seem like everyone is gay. They're pretty accurate in positioning gays as a minority pushing for equal rights. Anyway, if 2% of the U.S. population is gay, that still equates to 6.5 million people.

I don't think there are any serious future monetary consequences. The things you mentioned won't put 2% extra cost on heterosexuals just because 2% more of the population can now marry.

For that to be accurate, every gay person would have to get married and be married at the same time, no gay adults would be paying SS or insurance or taxes already, and there wouldn't be any increased revenue associated with gay marriages.
