ORLANDO, Fla.
WFTV
Officials say Orlando is expected to see a boost in the local economy as more tourists and tourist dollars flow in as the annual 'Gay Days' event reaches its peak.

The organizers of Gay Days say the six-day event should bring millions of dollars to the local economy.

"We've been eating and going out every night," one visitor told WFTV. "There was a big party at Typhoon Lagoon last night and we all dropped a couple hundred bucks."

The streets of Disney were packed with tourists celebrating the annual event that started 21 years ago and has continued to grow since. Officials expect 160,000 people to be in town for the event this weekend.

Disney does not officially sanction the event, but participants praised the theme park for being so accommodating.

"I think it's a great thing for everyone to be able to come out and get together every year, in a place that accepts everyone no matter what they are," visitor Justin King said.

The president of Gay Days says the event could bring as much as $600,000,000 to the local economy, but some tourism officials believe that number is a bit high.

Gay Days began in 1991 and while the event has faced criticism from some conservative groups, it has reportedly grown every year.

this flies over orlando every year to warn the heartland Americans not to attend with their children--->

I didn't post that in order to imply I think they should be seen as a minority. I don't think they should. I see that, in a sense, as a cop out. I don't think they should go to extremes to set themselves apart, it seems kind of defeating to me.

There have been on-going efforts by some (not all) in the gay activist community to have the Civil Rights Act of 1962 amended to include homosexuals, thus leading the way to them being covered by EEOC affirmative action and other "protected minority" measures. This has been going on for a couple of decades. Nancy Pelosi was solicited by a group of gay activists to help promote this cause a couple of years back; I don't think she pushed it. So far, the courts have not considered amending the Civil Rights Act to include homosexuals, to the best of my knowledge and research.

I agree with you and Dick on this one. While I fully support gay rights to marry and receive equal spousal benefits, I don't think anything to do with sexual activity should be included in such legislation, whether it be gay, straight, bi-sexual or anything else. JMO.

Note: These are the currently protected categories by the EEOC: race, color, religion, sex (meaning gender), national origin, disability, age.
I find grown adults who are seriously into Disney slightly creepy, a woman I used to work with wanted a Disney wedding, didn't have any kids just wanted a Disney wedding. I think if you are an adult and you want Goofy as your fucking best man you need treatment.

That's hilarious!

I don't think I can talk to you about this, Dick when you keep insisting that gays choose to be gay. You didn't get to choose to be straight, you were born straight.
I was born a male XY

Gay males are also XY

Females are XX

Gay females are also XX

There is no gay gene.

In a new study, researchers looked at 97 mothers of gay sons and 103 mothers without gay sons to see if there was any difference in how they handled their X chromosomes. The findings appear in the February 2006 issue of the journal Human Genetics. The research "confirms that there is a strong genetic basis for sexual orientation, and that for some gay men, genes on the X chromosome are involved," said study co-author Sven Bocklandt, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California at Los Angeles.

"When we looked at women who have gay kids, in those with more than one gay son, we saw a quarter of them inactivate the same X in virtually every cell we checked," Bocklandt said. "That's extremely unusual." Forty-four of the women had more than one gay son. In contrast, 4 percent of mothers with no gay sons activated the chromosome and 13 percent of those with just one gay son did. The phenomenon of being more likely to inactivate one X chromosome -- known as "extreme skewing" -- is typically seen only in families that have major genetic irregularities, Bocklandt said.

What does this all mean? The researchers aren't sure, but Bocklandt thinks he and his colleagues are moving closer to understanding the origins of sexual orientation.

Dr. Ionel Sandovici, a genetics researcher at The Babraham Institute in Cambridge, England said, "We're trying to understand one of the most critical human traits: the ability to love and be attracted to others. Without sexual reproduction we would not exist, and sexual selection played an essential role in evolution," he said. "Yet, we have no idea how it works, and that's what we're trying to find out. "

This research suggests that genetics may play a part in sexual orientation. This is a vast difference than decades ago, where earlier versions of the DSM regarded homosexuality as a mental disorder. Genetic research rocks.

Yes they do, and it's abhorrent and an abomination to our country that that shit happens.

I call it doing a barney frank.
Barney was very Frank about his orientation.

Larry Craig, not so much.

How many years did barney hide it?

and what difference does it make? gay is gay is gay hidden or open.

The simple reality is shitbird if you are going to support gay rights you can't pick and choose which ones are included in your delusions of grandeur.

You also have to include all NAMBLA members in your support, good job!!
Poor dick, when the shitbird comes out of his bag of tricks you know he's grasping for straws.

Frank also came out before he ran for Congress. He also stopped dating women for show when he realized he was gay. He tried to "not" be gay. Doesn't sound like "choice" to me chica.
