Interesting question.

Yesterday, 10-1-17, there was a mass knifing in France.

He murdered 2 before being killed by police.

Yesterday in Las Vegas, a well-trained gunman with multiple firearms, in a sniper's nest, was able to murder 50+ and wound more than 400 before committing suicide.

Aww c'mon, Cars! It's fun for gun lovers to shoot off several rounds at a time and they don't want their right to have fun infringed upon because of some nutcases.

...and trump is getting ready to make silencers legal again. Isn't that lovely!

I'm trying to get this confirmed by police sources but I haven't been able to yet - it's being reported that 406 people have been taken to area hospitals.

Sheriff Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metro PD has updated the media - 58 dead, 515 injured. My God.
Devastatingly terrible news. :(
It's horrific. And scary to know it's only a matter of time before the next crazy suicidal asshole does it. Apparently it's easy as pie.

There aren't going to be any magic solutions. I think most people realize that. Responsible gun owners are awesome. My dad, step-dad and grandfathers all fit that category.

People (like me and others) want to blame somebody/something. I really look at the possible solutions to this and realize there are none.

I just hate the idea that these 26 people died at the hands of a monster and there's really nothing that anyone can do to prevent something similar in the future.

Well, well, well...

Here we are nearly 5 years after Newtown, and my final paragraph seems to ring so, so true.

Another thing I've stated over and over (but don't want to try and find):

Just hope and pray you and your loved ones aren't in the area when a whack job decides he's going to randomly kill with his legally purchased firearm.

Because there's not a thing you or anyone else will be able to do about it.
Listening to people who knew the dude there is no discernable reason for what he did. Wealthy-ish, retired, NO political leanings...nutcase with a gun. And to answer Midwest Spy from above, doesn't appear to be particularly well trained. He just had a lot of automatic weaponry and a big crowd. Like I told some people on Facebook who were wringing hands about guns and rights etc...you can say what you want politically but one thing is certain: that guy would not have been able to stab 500 people from the 32nd floor.
Sounds like he was gambling very large sums of money ($20-30K) during his frequent visits to Vegas.

I'm also guessing that a guy with 10+ rifles on hand was well-trained in using them, even if he had no military experience.
I bet a manifesto is found, nobody just does this without some reason deranged or not in his head he thought it was the only thing to do. The truth will come out.
I could be wrong since I've never even touched a gun, but i don't think you have to be well trained to shoot into a huge crowd and hit multiple people. Seems like a little practice at the shooting range would be all it takes.

You left this part out, and you can defend this how?

Assault weapon's only main purpose is to kill "mass enemy soldiers", not just what happened in Vegas and Kill mass civilians at a show! (Or anywhere else here for that matter, mall, school, night club, etc)

It's not a "sporting" type "hunting" gun, it doesn't/wouldn't even give any "animal" a sporting chance!

Cars, I was being sarcastic. I had a choice to make, sarcasm or rail & sob and look like a lunatic.
I think we'll find he's owned these guns for years and has probably used them a lot, either at ranges or on private property.

He snapped, as Maggot says, and I'll say it's financially related.

I did read that ISIS is claiming responsibility and says he's a recent convert.

That cannot be possible, can it?
His anti Trump hatred was so profound he massacred people he felt most likely voted for him. Here he is in a pussy hat.

That's been debunked by law enforcement.

Actually, not debunked yet.

NY Times says it's not been confirmed as of now.

Alrighty. I can only speak to what the FBI has said. I probably should have clarified that when I posted.

A senior US government official told Reuters that the gunman had no known connections to the Islamic State and was not on any database of suspected terrorists. An FBI special agent named Aaron Rouse said at a press conference on Monday, "We have determined to this point no connection with an international terrorist group."
