That made my day. Thanks, Cars! I'm serious!
The Vegas mass shooting doesn't strike me as ISIS-related. I think the terrorist group is just looking for attention and credit. But, we'll see where the investigation leads.

The killer, ^ 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, was reportedly a multi-millionaire real estate investor who owned/managed several properties, was a high stakes gambler, used to work for Lockheed Martin's predecessor company, and lived with his girlfriend (who's out of country) in Mesquite, Nevada. He was also a licensed hunter and pilot who owned two planes.

Sheriff Lombardo just gave an update; 18 more firearms were found at the home Paddock shared with his girlfriend. The latest fatality count is 59 and the number injured is 527.

Paddock's dad was a criminal and armed bank robber. Benjamin Paddock escaped from prison for 10 years (on the lam from 1968 to 1978). He was a huge man and was on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list; the senior Paddock was said to be diagnosed as a psychopath who was suicidal and very dangerous.

This a strange mass shooting. Very different from the others. It's fucked up just to say that. Unfortunately it's going to get worse and there's no stopping it without taking guns away which isn't going to happen. So now anywhere you go you'll always have that little thought in your mind that you're a sitting duck. That's the world we live in now. People were always crazy, but now this is the thing to do when you go of the whacker.
Got the wackos? Up until that point you had me homegirl.
But lets get that wall built to keep America safe!

I just read that mass shootings are an uniquely American scene.

A mother commented that her son had done combat in Afghanistan, came home and went to a concert for a night of fun and was killed by an American.

American citizens are the biggest threat to other Americans, not Muslims, immigrants, illegal aliens or ISIS, Americans.
Paddock reportedly converted semi-automatic rifles into machine guns using bump stocks and high capacity magazines.

The bump stocks are attachments which allow semi-automatic rifles to fire mostly from recoil instead of trigger pull, making it possible for human hunters like this piece of shit to fire off even more rounds per minute. And, so far, it seems he bought his full arsenal legally.

I actually agree with Piers Morgan -- gun enthusiasts who suggest people shouldn't talk about gun policy after yet another mass shooting are full of it -- simply trying to invoke God and exploit sympathy to shame people into silence by shame. Ihttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4942278/PIERS-MORGAN-Vegas-Muslim-terror-d-new-laws.html

Thats illogical and such fucking stale rhetoric. Americans should do what we can to understand and minimize natural disasters and be better prepared to respond when they do occur. The same should be true of threats caused intentionally by human disasters like Paddock. In my opinion.

However, with the NRA's tight grip on conservative politicians' balls and the NRA's role in helping get Trump elected, I doubt we'll see any serious effort at more sensible gun policy during this administration. I hope I'm wrong about that.

Just read in the news where that nut job brought over "10" Suit cases into the hotel! Didn't anyone working there think that odd and or suspicious? All that luggage for one person, and a man at that!

It was reported that he had "23" guns in the hotel rooms, and they found another "19" at his home!
Money is the devil!

Pretty much agree with you. I Think there has long been a need to tighten up some gun legislation. The problem as I see it though is that the anti gun crown immediately starts trying to shove in all kinds of stupid shit most of which is based on emotional knee jerking rather than thoughtful research.
Yea I know lots of folks are going to start in on All guns are evil...
By all means, change the laws, but do it intelligently, I hope it happens that way.
The NRA is almost as bad in the opposite direction, their first response is Fuck That....and around and around we go
I pretty much agree with your post too, Six.

Except, every time we have this discussion, you say that no sensible changes in gun policy get made because Dems and/or Libs attach a bunch of riders. I don't agree.

I've posted the full version of the Universal Background bill that was introduced after Sandy Hook and asked you to show me the fat, for example. You haven't done so, but keep insisting riders and fat are the problem. That bill specifically states that there will be no registry, it places no restrictions on guns or ammo, and there's nothing but enhanced screening in its content. Still, with around 90% of the population supporting that legislation (including a whole lot of responsible gun owners), the federal bill got shelved by the conservative congress.

Some states picked up the ball and passed laws for universal background checks, while others went in the other direction out of defiance. So........gun policy remains widely inconsistent across the country and that's a problem.

I support states' rights and autonomy in many cases, but not when it comes to gun policy, health care accessibility, and other matters of national security and safety. I agree with the conservative contention after every gun massacre, "we need more focus on mental health". That's true, in my opinion. But, that's not the sole solution and many people don't go nuts until they go nuts, as we've seen time and again with these mass and spree shooters.

I do agree that there are some citizens on the far left who don't listen and make unreasonable demands without considering other people's rights. But, that's not what keeps us from really addressing this problem and instead going round in circles, in my opinion.
Chicago must be nutcase heaven.

Maggot, you go back to Chicago time and again when this subject comes up.

The problem is, the inner city people killing each other are largely using stolen guns.

This discussion is about LEGALLY ACQUIRED long guns that are used by law-abiding, mostly white male citizens that have suddenly decided to mow down their fellow citizens.

Please leave your Chicago statement for a time it applies.
Yes maggot, please do.

With my own ears I just heard Mitch McConnell say is was premature & inappropriate to be having a gun discussion now.

That's how everything just blows over.

Until the next one, and people are outraged for a handful of days...

Rinse, repeat.

With my own ears I just heard the Donald say what happened in Vegas was a "miracle"!

(Then he clarified it by saying, it was a miracle that the Police got there so fast)
Lets see what his motivation was and then lets talk.

Why does motivation matter? Not being rude, not being a wiseass, but in my mind the only thing that matters are the dead and those that cared about them.

I'm not what some of you call a gun grabber. I believe in one's right to own guns.

It looks as though he recently wired $100K to his girlfriend in the Philippines but that the room was somehow booked in her name and with her ID even though she was overseas.

This tells me that obviously this was well-planned, that he knew this was the end of his life.

Motive is still a mystery to me.

Was he terminally ill and just angry with everybody? Was he broke? Doubt it, since he sent her a decent sum of money. Was she affiliated with the Muslims in the Phillipines and got him to act as a Muslim terrorist?

That last thought seems like a long shot, but I'm having a hard time figuring out why he wanted to do this?

I saw this called the sniper's nest. Gave me the willies.

I've never been to Vegas, surely it's not all as tacky lookin' as this room, is it?
