hell. you just can't trust the ice to be safe. 'my' lake looks frozen solid, but i know there are springs moving underneath. i always took my kids skating on flooded cranberry bogs because i knew they were shallow.

The snowmobiles were carrying six people on Lake Dunmore when the accident occurred about 100 yards from shore at about noon Saturday. Five people went into the water and were later pulled out by rescue crews. A 4-year-old was pushed to safety before the snowmobile he was riding went through the ice.
The lakes are really NOT thick enough for a vehicle. I like more than 4-6 inches under me. Hell... I hate it when it starts cracking and moaning. People are nuts sometimes.:o
