I have no patience for this level of stupid. I know...she's retarded and can't help it but god damn, it's hard to listen to. I want to poke her eyes out with a butter knife.

This is witness 8 (known as DeeDee) who's testifying. She's slow, no doubt.

She just said that Trayvon told her on the phone that night that Zimmerman looks like a "creepy ass cracker". That doesn't really work for the prosecution or the defense. DeeDee told Trayvon that he might be a rapist. DeeDee says that Trayvon told her that he was gonna try to lose the man, and then Trayvon told her the man was following him. That does help the prosecution.

Cross-examination is gonna be interesting.

Edit: Her actual name is Rachel Jeantel. She's 19.
She said she heard the sounds of wet grass. I get it but I wish her luck trying to imitate the sound of wet grass.

If anyone can do it, she can.
I like her.

I don't think she's capable of lying and she's trying hard to follow along, but the legal system is all above her head.

Now I know why Adub has such compassion for this girl. I'd only read transcripts of her interviews before; this is the first time I've seen her.
West keeps asking DeeDee why she didn't call police after the incident.

She says that police are supposed to call the last person who was on the phone with the victim; not the other way around. She asked West if he watches The First 48, that's how it works on that show. Haha!

DeeDee thought Zimmerman had been arrested and it was a done deal. She didn't get a call about it until Saturday 17 March when Trayvon's dad called her because the phone records indicated that DeeDee was the last person to whom Trayvon had spoken.
She says she lied about her age to maintain her privacy. Not believing that.
While I don't think DeeDee has the capacity to lie effectively on the stand, she did indeed lie to Crump and Trayvon's parents about being 16 instead of 18 (to avoid, as a minor, public disclosure - she admitted when West asked her) and she lied to Trayvon's mom when she said that she didn't go to the funeral because she was in the hospital. DeeDee says she lied about that that because she didn't want to say that she didn't want to see the dead body. DeeDee testified, "you gotta understand how it feels to be the last person to talk to him and he's dead" (para).

When DeeDee was interviewed by phone about her last conversation with Trayvon, she thought it was just going to be heard and recorded by Attorney Crump and Trayvon's parents. She did not know that it would be broadcast on ABC.

So far, DeeDee's turning out to be a much better witness for the prosecution (especially under cross) than I had imagined from reading her interview transcripts.
Has she been cross examined yet?

Ok, they have proved she will lie.

West suggested that's why she lied about her age and she agreed.

I think everybody assumed she was younger and Trayvon's girlfriend and she just rode with it.

Later, I can see her then being afraid to correct them and wanting them to have go through her mother; she really seems to have wanted to avoid the difficulty and spotlight involved in all of this.

Just my opinion/speculation. Maybe she's more crafty and deceptive than I believe.

She's correcting the prosecutor. Hahaha!

You're definitely right about that, sharit.

She did indeed lie about her age and why she didn't go to the funeral.

I don't think she's lying on the stand, seems credible to me. But, I could be wrong about that. I wonder if the jury finds her credible?
Why is Trayvon,s Dad shaking his head?

Watching HLN tv which is delayed. She's still under cross by Don West.

De la rionda will no doubt want to do a re-direct with her when West finishes his cross.

I think she's gonna be on the stand a while longer. Taking some time; she's not quick to follow.

If i was on the jury I would not find her credible. I feel George is guilty, because he followed after he was told to back off. George was determined to catch a thief. He is lucky Trayvon did not have a gun. George is a complete dumb ass if you ask me. I am not going to die for a neighborhood watch job. Bet that job does not pay well.
Court dismissed for the day.

West will continue his cross tomorrow morning. DeeDee is none too happy about having to return to court for a second day. Seems very clear that she really doesn't want to be involved in any way; she's a reluctant witness. That's undeniable to me; she got a little hostile before court was dismissed.

West finally scored a point during the cross. He recalled her depo where she said the voice screaming in the 911 call "could have been Trayvon". She's not certain that it was, just that it sounded like him. She acknowledged that and West requested to call it a day.

Interesting witness, imo.

I think Trayvon's dad was shaking his head at points during her testimony because she doesn't seem to get the significance of her testimony, she didn't seem to want to get involved with Crump or the Martins or anybody else, and she's slow and unpredictable. JMO.
Houston, we have a problem.

DeeDee looks to be imploding this AM.

She was unable to read a letter she supposedly wrote... because she apparently can't read cursive. But she can write in it?

WTF?

Oh hell. lie #2 or is that 3? If you can not read it, you sure the hell can not write it. Seems a little hostile to me.
I only turned it on for a minute but she seems very hostile this morning. Not good.
