it is very rare and unusual for bail to be granted in a 2nd degree murder case.
however, i suspect this has already been negotiated between prosecutor and Z lawyer.

Any bail will require a significant cash amt., whether in money or property.

The judge will likely have to set in the range of around $250,000.

The magistrate judge hearing Zimmerman's case Thursday will consider Zimmerman's character, his likelihood to make subsequent court appearances, and his ties to the community when deciding whether to grant bail.

Z may be safer in jail in PC.Prison he could not leave florida.

Media attorneys today asked the Sanford judge overseeing the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin murder case to unseal the court file.

Attorneys for Zimmerman and the state last week agreed on Thursday that they wanted paperwork in the file kept secret.

Seminole County Judge Mark Herr agreed, without signing an official order.

But media attorneys today filed an eight-page motion, saying there had been no showing that sealing the file is warranted.

They also pointed out that much of the evidence in the case has already been reported.

The motion was prepared by the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP on behalf of several media companies, including the New York Times, Miami Herald, The Tampa Bay Times, The Florida Times-Union, CNN, NBC, several broadcasters and other publishing companies as well as The First Amendment Foundation, a non-profit media advocacy group in Tallahassee.

There may be other developments in the case today as well.

Last week, defense attorney Mark O'Mara hinted that he may ask Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler to recuse herself.

sorry, off topic
an update on the shootings in OK that we discussed a bit in this thread.
i wonder how their lawyers will explain the fact they confessed. let me guess, they were coerced. weren't read their rights. beaten with truncheons.

Two Oklahoma men plead not guilty to hate crimes after they went on a shooting spree in a predominantly black section of Tulsa this month, killing three people and wounding two others.

Jake England and Alvin Watts appeared in Tulsa County District Court via closed-circuit television from jail, where they have been held since their arrests Easter Sunday.

Lawyers for the two men entered not guilty pleas to charges of first-degree murder, shooting with the intent to kill and malicious harassment in the April 6 attacks in Tulsa.

bond hearing friday.

Orlando Sentinel

SANFORD – The new judge in the George Zimmerman murder case will be Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr., who's been on the bench 15 years.

The case passed to him today, but not before things got a bit complicated.

It was originally assigned to Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler, but she recused herself today after Zimmerman's attorney asked her to step aside because of a possible conflict of interest: Her husband is the law partner of Mark NeJame, who's been hired to comment on the case for CNN.

today, friday:

SANFORD --

George Zimmerman has been in jail for nine days on second-degree murder charges for shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Now, his family plans to ask a judge Friday to let him out of jail.

Zimmerman's parents are expected to testify by phone at a bond hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday. Officials said they are calling in instead of going to the Seminole County Courthouse in person for security reasons.

Attorney Mark O'Mara said he has a few ideas of safe places where Zimmerman can stay if he is granted bond.

Earlier in the week, O'Mara also said Zimmerman wants to meet with Trayvon Martin's parents. But Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said that won't happen.

ABC
A new photograph obtained exclusively by ABC News showing the bloodied back of George Zimmerman's head, which was apparently taken three minutes after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, gives possible credence to his claim that Martin had bashed his head against the concrete as Zimmerman fought for his life.
The exclusive image shows blood trickling down the back of Zimmerman's head from two cuts. It also shows a possible contusion forming on the crown of his head. The original police report that night notes that the back of Zimmerman's head was wet, and that he was bleeding from the nose and head.
The person who took the photograph of a bloodied Zimmerman, asking not to be identified, told ABC News exclusively that they did not see the scuffle that night, but did hear it. The person recalled seeing Martin's prostrate body on the wet grass and said the gunpowder burns on Martin's gray hoodie were clearly visible.
That's a pretty significant piece of evidence, IMO.

LC, has it been confirmed that Trayvon had in fact assaulted a bus driver prior to the incident with Z?

If so, that would lend some credence to his brazenness as far as attacking adults.

i don't know the facts/disposition of that allegation.

i'm watching bond hearing now.
his wife and other family members testifying by phone.
wife says they have no assets.
his father said he'd put up his house.
but they have little or no equity.

Martin's parents in court.

I'm glad to see this thread here. Only serious discussion taking place about this society changing event, imo.

I think that it's still an "inside" job, which was why he got charged with 2nd degree murder instead of manslaughter. Manslaughter would have been a slam dunk, 15 years for the crime, 15 years for the gun. 30 years would have been a fair exchange for his rather heinous actions.

They won't get a jury to convict him on that kind of charge, unless there's a truckload of stuff we didn't see or hear, and it seems like the whole scenario has been pretty transparent.

For example. He was arrested in Talahassee the morning the judge signed the warrant. That means the cops knew where he was from the get go. The fact that his dads a retired judge, and is part of that Sanford County "inner circle" speaks volumes about the way it was handled.

Is it perjury is you make a public statement that you KNOW is a lie to obfuscate the issues? Zimmerman's nose was never broken, he was the aggressor and executor in that struggle.
lying to the public isn't perjury. even in open court, look at bozo baez. he told HUGE porkies in opening. lawyers have immunity from slander charges in court, but they can be sanctioned for suborning perjury. they cannot knowingly let a witness lie under oath.

That's not necessarily what happened. Upon hearing of his indictment, Zimmerman (or his agent) could have notified LE of his whereabouts. (That's what I assumed had happened.)
i'm quite surprised Z took the stand. he wanted to apologize to Martin's parents. Martin's parents had refused to meet with him. that was very unusual and risky, he was not supposed to make contact with them.

bond set at $150,000. he will not be released today, until financial arrangements locked in.

curfew.
no contact with witnesses or Martin family.
ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device
monitoring by court. must report.

Martin's parents are "devastated" and angry he will be released.
and outraged at apology.

The way I heard/read it, he was bugging the new Inquisitor after she was hired, which was why she didn't need to convene a grand jury. It "appears" to have been all worked out behind the scenes.

:sigh: so much media bs has muddied everything up.

Is hispanic the new white or something? Not a racist comment, I'm just trying to figure why they're calling this guy "white"??

he did try to talk to prosecutor, the office correctly refused.

he made himself available to authorities before Corey even announced the charges. and turned himself in.

she did not take it to grand jury because she did not need to unless it was going to be 1st degree.
That's interesting. It sort of conflicts with the bs Corey spun on her 6pm press conference, because of the way the process actually works. For her to pursue charges she had to get a warrant first. I heard the warrant was served between noon and 2pm eastern that day, and he was already in custody when she was announcing the charges on the media.

That the way you heard/saw it?
The prosecutor made a comment today about who should be claiming self defense. From what I know so far (waiting for evidence) it seems to me Trayvon was the one defending himself regardless of the head injury.

"White" fits the narrative of the story the mainstream media wants to report. Some media identified Zimmerman as a "white Hispanic." But if Zimmerman had found he cure for cancer, I have no doubt he would have been identified as Hispanic.
This is what I do not understand, didn't Martin's mother state on one of her MEDIA TOURS that she wanted him to apologize? He does and they have a fit about it?
the Martins felt that Z had never seen fit to express remorse before, and that what he did today was self-serving and insincere.
