I made sure I live in a neighborhood that is relatively crime-free. MF thinks it's racist that I want to live in a white neighborhood, but I can go away for a weekend and not have to worry about being robbed. Five miles down the road, if people leave for a weekend they come home and find their air conditioning units gone.

You're absolutely right, I think it's dangerous. I know how quickly life can turn from sugar to shit.

I have friends who won't even leave the suburbs at night, even if we go in a group. I'm going to dinner in a little bit with my lady friends and we have to eat within a ten mile radius or my best buddy won't go. That is kinda sad. Plus, the restaurants aren't that great. She refuses to go into the city for Thai food (that was my vote this evening) so we have to go to a steakhouse in the sticks.

They don't take credit cards or debit cards, have to go with cash (only place I know that still takes checks) because my friend thinks we will be mugged if we drive ten miles in the other direction...

We all have to deal with shit because a segment of the population thinks it's okay to live in fear.
The only black neighborhoods we have here are in the ghetto, and the only white peope that want to live in the ghetto are fat women with 20 kids.

Orlando and Palm Coast do have some nice mixed race neighborhoods, however.

I don't blame white people and I don't blame the police in general. However, I do blame this one mixed spic for his actions and I do fault the Sanford police for how they've handled it.

It sounds like you're saying all black people in general are to blame if one of them gets shot (even if they're innocent) because so many of them are hoodlums so it's reasonable to assume a black kid in a hoodie is up to no good??

Geraldo, is that you?

Where the hell to you live that you can't be safe 10 miles away from your neighborhood?? My brother's town is not like that at all. From what I saw anyway. And my mother has been down there for the past month and they go all over.
I am sure there will be a big police presence here. Here in the city, the Liberty Pole is like the center of problems already.

Oh, I am sure of that, Maggot. Bet Fla rethinks the Stand Your Ground thing. Or at least tells the Neighborhood Watch Cop wannabes to keep the damn guns at home.

Whatever happened, Zimmerman was advised not to pursue Martin by the 911 dispatcher. Had he listened, this could have been avoided. The fall out in law enforcement makes it look clear cut that they did not investigate properly initially; hope they do so now. The delay is one of the biggest factors pissing people off, in my opinion.

A few miles (or even blocks) can make a big difference. Ask the British tourists who wandered (on foot) into a bad area, or the Christian & Newsom kids who wandered a few miles off course. Ooops... sorry, you can't ask them, they're dead.
I can't believe the undercurrents in this thread. Black people commit a lot of crimes; ergo, it's totally reasonable to suspect, stalk and shoot a black kid wearing a hoodie.

WTF?
That "kid" was 6'2" 200lbs.........I'm not saying Zimmerman was right but hell thats one big fucking "kid"!!!

I know but why was he singled out/followed in the first place? If some freak was chasing me around, I'd probably turn around at some point and defend myself too. And I'd probably be kind of pissed too.

All 5' 6" of me. lol.

If someone followed you and questioned you about what you were doing (when you weren't doing anything) don't you think at some point that would piss you off? Back.off.
I thought I heard that the "kid" had a cellphone. Did he call the cops and say "Hey, this spic is fucking with me" I just think the entire story needs too come out before I pass judgement.

Hmmm, last I heard he was talking to his g/f on his cell phone and then the phone cut off when the altercation with Zimmerman began. He told his g/f someone was following him--she told him to run and he said he was just going to keep walking away.

I agree, the entire story needs to come out.
WFTV orlando posted this brief animated "reenactment" of the incident. i have been unable to locate any credits for whoever did this animation, but i find it inflammatory.

jesse jackson is in town now too, he and sharpton can't stay away from microphones and TV cameras.

i think things will get worse before anything happens, but zimmerman might be safer in jail under arrest.

WTF?

It's crazy.

A kid was chased down by a neighborhood watch patroller who claims he thought the kid was involved in burglary or larceny - neither of which is life threatening. After being told by 911 dispatch not to pursue, the patroller took matters into his own hands, tracked the kid down, and confronted and killed him.

You can take the race of the victim, the race of the shooter, and the size of both out of the equation and it's still clearly a case of one man unjustifiably killing another man, based on all we know now. If it turns out the unarmed kid tried to defend himself against the armed patroller, it doesn't change the fact that Zimmerman wasn't "standing his ground" against a threat to his life or property; he was the aggressor. The 911 calls prove that, imo.

Clear cut, to me. But, yeah, I want to hear more details and I hope law enforcement gets them (which they should have done more formally right off the bat).

Trayvon's nickname was Slimm. I don't think he weighed 200 lbs. More like 160 lbs. Zimmerman was 200 lbs.
