Results from today's hearing:
-Zimmerman's lawyer, O'Mara, waived the self-defense immunity hearing which was scheduled for April 22
nd. If he uses that element of the SYG defense, he's expected to do so at start of trial in June.
-Witness 8 (girl on phone with Trayvon) did not have medical records to turn over to defense. They were requesting them to verify that she missed Trayvon's funeral because she was in the hospital. Defense contends that she lied about that, and takes issue with Crump (Martin family attorney) originally stating that Witness 8 was 16 at the time when she had actually just turned 18. The defense wants to impeach her credibility altogether and is trying to investigate her background. They asked for LE's records; the judge granted them redacted copies, removing her social security number.

What? Zimmerman is not going to have his pre-trial evidentiary hearing? To have the Murder 2 charge dismissed, and provide immunity from civil litigation?
Now why would that be? Makes absolutely no sense. Unless, the defendant realizes that testifying would not be such a win; seeing as he has lied and lied, again and again. Doesn't think that he could handle being cross-examined by the Prosecution and made to answer for all the inconsistencies in his various stories?

So let's see... we learned today that the witness who says she was on the phone with the victim lied in her sworn affidavit. We also learned that the family attorney also misrepresented facts about the witness as well.
Yeah, I'd say both sides have serious problems with their cases.

Well, when in a sworn statement you say you missed a funeral because you were in the hospital, and in fact you were never in a hospital, that's what we call a lie.
She never stated that in her interview. Oh yeah, it was not a sworn affidavit. It was an interview during the investigation before Zimmerman was even arrested. I feel bad for this young lady.

I think I'm missing something. I saw a transcript of an interview with Witness 8. I don't think it's clear that she lied about anything, but maybe you all are talking about some other document?
Witness 8 didn't say she was 16 and didn't specify that she'd gone to the hospital in the transcript that I read. I've only seen those claims from the defense.
From what I read, DeeDee seemed a little slow in following. I don't mean that disrespectfully because all this girl did was have a phone call with a friend who ended up being killed. If the phone records verify that she was on the phone with Trayvon leading up to the killing (and I think that has been verified) then let's move it along. It's coming up on a year that the defense has been able to depose her and had her birth date, but they keep dragging their feet and dragging her name through the mud on twitter and internet. Unless the defense has simply been requesting more and more info about her and focusing on her not going to the funeral (which has nothing to do with the night in question) in order to delay the trial and gain more public support (and donations), I don't understand their motives. The Judge appears frustrated with the feet dragging too.
What's George's brothers motivation with all of his tweets disparaging Crump and DeeDee? I don't get that either unless he's trying to solicit more support/dollars and/or secure a change of venue.
I just want to see a fair trial with evidence to support what REALLY happened beyond a reasonable doubt. In all honesty, from the little I've read from DeeDee and what I perceive as a bit of slowness in her comprehension, I don't know if she'd help or hurt either side. But, that's for the attorneys to tackle.

I hear you, but she is just a kid. And she never said that she was hospitalized in her sworn statement to the investigators. Crump said it, and he said that she had to be hospitalized due to stress. But, she never said it. Maybe it was her momma that told Crump. Or her Auntie, or the next door neighbor. I have no idea where crump got the information. And neither do you. The defense just needs to take her deposition and be done with it.
The only thing the prosecution said is that there are no medical records. So who said that there should be medical records? My opinion is that West watched too much Tee Vee. And let the nutters whisper in his ear. Let this go to trial.
Besides, whether or not Witness 8 went to the hospital 2 weeks after the murder, has nothing to do with what went down that night. It is a sideshow. Let the defense try and get her statements suppressed.
