7:00 am is sleeping in for me.

I slept in til 9. I'm usually up at 7. It was wonderful.

San Bernadino in Southern California has filed city bankruptcy. Stockton, in Northern California, filed bankruptcy a couple of weeks back. It's the largest city to do so (300,000 pop). Mammoth Lakes, California is now voting on whether to file bankruptcy. Discouraging.

On July 6^th, Governor Brown announced that the So Cal / Nor Cal high speed rail system that voters approved in 2008 was passed by the state legislature. He's contends that it creates jobs and modernizes our state’s rail transportation system. "The Legislature took bold action today that gets Californians back to work and puts California out in front once again.”

Gawd, I hope things turn around soon.

I see Gov Brown is still making noise out of his feeding hole. So do you think they'll just close the towns?

Nah, I don't think the people living in the towns will notice much difference in the short term. Spending over budget; not only a national problem, but a state and regional one as well.

Some of these citiies' lenders will probably get a portion of what's owed to the them depending on the bankruptcy filings. They may lend less in the future. I'm guessing here; I really don't know what it means other than the cities either can't pay what they owe or don't want to do so. Some controversy over the books.

It means literally nothing. It's the way you scare people into supporting public works programs. Crock of shit.

I guessing the State of Ca. is still going to be able to keep the house, both cars, the jet skis and it's watch collection. I figure the Ca. AG can probably get it done. You know, for the kids.

You may be right, RG. Certainly would be a motivator to garner support for more public works funding. It's exactly what Dick laments on a national level; government creating work paid for by the peoples' taxes in order to create jobs for the people. Circular.

I need to get more facts before I form a strong opinion on the politics of the California filings.

I'm a little pensive about ferreting out the details on this one myself, too close to home. Gotta get some work done this afternoon, so blissfully ignorant will not be shattered on this topic, today anyway.

Did I mention that I like Oregon? No town has filed bankruptcy there to the best of my knowledge (though I think one took out a $500k loan from its bank to avoid it). Sticking with CA, but still looking at other options.

I here too...for now. But how about a cabin in the woods with property to tend and fish in a stream or some such...

Heaven. Major international city or the woods, a place where you can either be stimulated getting lost in the crowd, or just enjoy nature and avoid the crowd. You posted that your wife would love such a place, I see where she's coming from.

I do love the city though, this city. If I make a move, I need to get out while I have the money to set up in the woods (or desert, I like the desert too) and can work at rural pay and be okay.

I don't have the money yet. We're getting to the point where we don't necessarily need to be in a city everyday. 42 and 40. She was born and raised in Southern Sweden. Pacific Northwest is similar in look and climate as Göteborg in summertime. It's like fond childhood memories of frolicking in nature year 'round. I just _need_ rain and less people. It'll take us a few years to put the money together unless I have some sort of brilliant idea... So it's going to be a few years then. By that time we'll' be ready to homestead.

Something to work towards and look forward to; always good. You'll still be young in a few years when you make it (assuming no brilliant profit-making idea speeds things up).

Göteborg is beautiful in summer. Went to Lysekil for a day back in August 2000. Your wife would probably laugh; major tourist destination, but it was really gorgeous and charming too.

Not at all. When I was younger and tougher I was a bouncer. She came into the nightclub where I worked two days after coming to the US to work as an au pair. That was in May '93. We've been together everyday since. She must be completely irreparably insane.

Hot today. Felt like having a beer but don't want all the calories; just tried Miller 64 for the first time. Not bad at all for 64 calories, imo.

Stella: 5.2% (it is good, but I like Fat Tire best).
Miller 64: 2.8% (decent, but I like Fat Tire best).
Fat Tire: 5.3% (the winner, but 155 calories)

When drinking without regard for calories or to reach a certain buzz factor, smarter to just go with what you like best unless you want it to take longer to hit the spot.
